CTS Push-pull Pots, DPDT

About This Item

Add a switch without adding a hole. Sized to fit more guitars.
On these top quality CTS control pots, the switch contacts are on the side, not the back. This makes them shorter, so they'll fit most guitars without routing—only 1" cavity depth is needed.

The double-pole double-throw switch adds lots of wiring options. Pull the knob to coil-cut a humbucker, switch a pickup in/out, or control anything: the switch is electrically separate from the control pot.

CTS pots have long been the first choice in American guitars. CTS worked with StewMac to create these unique control pots. In addition to their space-saving size, they feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered elsewhere.

Their precision audio taper gives smoother, more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. The volume swells evenly from 0 to 10, with no abrupt changes.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. The long shaft #0229 fits Les Paul® and other carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

Fender p bass rewire

Used for first time in fender p bass wiring. Pulls for series/ parallel & q filter/ tone cap.
High quality pots , a little beefier than old style pull pots, a little tough to redo things if you need to because board is a little crowded compared to old style pull pots. But good product and reccomended as long as you have wide enough cavity & dont want to redo or change things.

I like em!

I've used the typical, old style CTS Push/Pull pots for decades and have learned how to deal them and to solder them so they don't get cooked. I attached lots of little alligator clips to the lugs to act like heat sinks. With these new ones, its very easy to solder to the little eyelets, especially with pre-tinned wire and my alligator clips stay in the drawer.

Push/Pull POT

I have these in 4 of my guitars, by far THE highest quality P/P POT I have found!
Not only the potentiometer itself but the switch itself. Don't waste your $ on anything less.

Great pots, not as easy a using lugs for connections

By

These are really quality pots and feel like they can take a beating. I'm glad StewMac put together the data sheet on these since that was impossible to find through regular searches on the web. Not as easy to solder if you don't have some practice. I'm ok, but not great and found these a bit tight and difficult to work with, soldering on the PCB.

Minimum required cavity depth understated

By

I tried to install this pot in an SG, whose cavities are naturally shallow due to the thinness of the guitar. According to the advertised dimensions, this pot should have worked, but it did not. To make it fit, I had to remove the inner locknut, but doing so resulted in the post protruding too far outside the body, thus preventing the control knob from riding close enough to the body. If one could abide the ugliness of the end result, then I suppose the pot would work. I, for one, could not. I consider this a flaw in advertising, not a flaw in the product. I have no reason to doubt the quality of the pot. It simply does not fit as described.

Great Pots, but.....

By

They work great but I found myself having to get very creative on routing the wires. I used 4 of them in a Les Paul Studio that I gutted and rewired for a customer. He wanted the Jimmy Page setup and with all the wiring involved the push pull solder points seem too tight up to the main lugs on the pot. If I were to do that job again I would probably use a pot with the 6 exposed lugs on the body of the switch. I am sure it would be much easier to solder it up.

My favorite push/pull pot

By

I love the feel & taper of this push/pull pot. All of the other manufacturers have a very loose, cheap feeling pot. CTS makes this one feel just like their other pots, nice feeling turn & nice taper. I also like the soldering terminals on this pot.

Very smooth, not as small as appears

By

Verified Buyer

These pots feel very nice: silky smooth action. However, hey are not as small/short as many of the descriptions and the reviews would have you believe. They are actually bigger than the Bourne mini pots that I was hoping to replace. I will keep them for another project: I still like how smooth they feel.

Only pot that will fit

By

Verified Buyer

Installed these short shaft push pull pots in a 2014 Gibson Melody Maker. Had to remove PC board assy and route the control cavity a bit for them to fit. They are the shortest assemblies I found in my search.
Not sure if I like them, the audio taper is too steep and only a minor touch from full-on really cuts the volume. I may try a resistor network to re-taper the curve a bit.
