Megaswitch

About This Item

Upgraded! More wiring options, sturdier construction
The 5-way Megaswitch offers nearly unlimited wiring options for HH, HSH, HSS, and SSS guitars. The circuit board layout makes it easy to customize your sound, and it now accepts standard US-thread screws for retrofitting classic American guitars.

Improved contact and durability
Designed for guitarists, each Megaswitch features heavy-duty construction and the best "feel" of all our lever-action switches. All of the contacts are gold-plated, including the contact rotor. The lever is thinner to fit more pickguards and upgraded to steel so it will not break.

E-Model Megaswitch: Extend your wiring options
The E-Model Megaswitch allows wiring configurations not possible with a standard 5-way switch, including automatic coil-tapping and special hum-cancelling connections. 12 lugs provide twice the wiring options as previous 6-lug versions. Use these extra lugs for alternative tone control or pickup combinations. Extensive and easy-to-follow wiring diagrams are included.

P-Model Megaswitch
Replicate the functions of a PRS® rotary switch in a 5-way lever switch. It is designed for guitars with two humbuckers. This switch allows series and parallel coil-taps for the inside and outside coils. 7 lugs.

S-Model Megaswitch
High-quality replacement for the standard 5-way switch in Strats® and many other guitars. Designed for guitars with 3 single-coil pickups. Includes additional options for tone control and pickup combinations. 12 lugs.

Each switch includes
2 chrome screws, 6-32 thread
2 knobs (black and white)
Wiring instructions, including diagrams for 8 different pickup configurations

P Megaswitch review

Mech Engineer by trade, have built 3 very nice electric guitars as a hobby and used this switch on all w great results. However, the switch has changed. It’s now 1/8” taller, which requires a deeper body route, this was a big deal for me as I built a carved top body and failed to allow for this, my fault. And, more importantly it is wired completely different now. My frustration is that the old wiring diagram was complete from the output jack to tremolo/bridge ground and pickups. The new diagram only covers the jack and pot’s. I went through 2 switches and a couple of very frustrating days trying to figure out the correct wiring for a 2 humbucker situation. StewMac you are fantastic on service and were very helpful getting me through the process but please update this schematic so that even a mechanical person can clearly see the entire circuit. This was painful enough that I made my own schematic and I think I’ll frame it. Hope this helps. Thanks

Love the Megaswitch

Been a Strat player since my Mom bought me a new sunburst in 1966, but somehow never like the sound of just the middle pickup. Just didn't sound usable to me. I installed a push-pull pot so I could get the bridge/neck combo and totally loved that sound. The Megaswitch let's me have that sound where just the middle PU would be on the switch. Love it!

This will be the second one I have installed in a new guitar build. You have many wiring options to use as they supply a full set of instructions for the switch. I will be grabbing another one soon.

Much easier to wire than the Oak Grigsby super switches if they make the exact combination you want.

Does just what it says

I put this in all my Strats to access the bridge/neck pickup combo in the middle position, instead of the middle pickup. Just solder the wires where they say, and it does the trick! Bridge & neck together sounds bright and warm, and works great for songs where I might otherwise have to use an acoustic. A nice smooth, solid switch too.

A cheap version of the real mega Switch. Not the same switch I received in the past . Definitely not worth the money I payed for it.

Perfect For My Taylor Solidbody

By

This switch gives a 5 way coil tap selection in a PRS pattern for two humbuckers. I got it because the Schaller-made switch for the mini-humbucker loaded pickguard on my Taylor Solidbody had a genetic defect. Really, I cleaned it (a real pain) and Taylor replaced it once but you couldn't depend on a signal to come from the guitar when you flipped the switch. No good, and they quit making the model though they played well and sounded great.

The guitar sat around and I finally looked for and found this switch. It gave close to the coil combinations I had on the Taylor and it is like PRS, so how bad could it be? The bonus is that as it is also made by Schaller, the mounting screw pattern is the same as the Taylor's, so it screws right in to the mounting plate. For the Taylor application, you have to clip off the quick disconnectors from the pickup wires and solder them directly to the switch. (I did an explanation of the Taylor installation on Harmony Central)

USE THE WIRING DIAGRAM THAT COMES WITH THE SWITCH! Sorry, but I printed out one from the Schaller site and tried to use that and it was completely screwed up. Oh, The Stew Mac diagram doesn't say where to put one of the negative wires; it goes to ground.

The switch works great and the sounds are good. Mainly, its now dependable enough to use on a gig. I highly recommend this for a Taylor Solidbody with two humbuckers and a wonky switch. It would also give a nice array of sounds for any guitar with two humbuckers and a way to mount a blade-type switch.

Simple installation

I replaced the switch that came with a set of Lace pickups and pots. With the installation instructions that come with this switch it was very easy to swap switches and solder the connections.
