Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our #7373 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

Treble Bleed Telecaster

Wanted to set up my Tele with treble bleed circuit and because StewMac has always had great products so I ordered one. Placement went smoothly and sounds great! Recommended the same for a friend who just finished building his own Telecaster.

Works great on Am. Std. Strat

I installed the orange drop version on my 1993 Fender American Standard Start that was previously 100% stock. I like it so far and am keeping it. I did temporary wiring test where I could play it and disconnect to compare it to original sound. I found it did work to brighten the sound even when volume was on full level 10. However I did like this effect as I think this guitar could tolerate a little more bite and treble. This may or may not work for you just depending. I went into the test hoping with volume pot on 10 it would not really do anything. Pleased and surprised with results.

I saw the trade secrets video and I was sold. Worked great on my own Tele but haven’t had the occasion yet to use it on any of my customers’ guitars.
Highly recommended!!!

While I'm not a fan, this was installed for someone who is. Works as described. Nice price too.

Great for rolling the volume off!

I bought this to be installed on my JEM knockoff. Man, what a difference! I paired it with a CTS volume pot and now I can have hot overdriven tones, roll off the volume and I have clean pristine sounds as well at the turn of a knob! Thanks again, StewMac!

Great product, but........

By

I have used these a couple of times now and wouldn't build without one (here's where the "but" comes in)
This product does exactly what it says as far as maintaining tone set by the tone pot all the way down the volume spectrum. The only minor gripe that I have with it is that i agree with one reviewer that I read that it does seem to dramatically effect the volume curve. It seems to go from 0 to about 4 in a hurry and then kind of flattens out.
I wonder if there is a fix for that. I am entertaining using the 250 pot instead of the 500 that I usually use, but I don't think that is the cure.

I can now turn down my volume and not lose the high end. Easy to install. Highly recommend.
