Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our #7373 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

Great for rolling the volume off!

I bought this to be installed on my JEM knockoff. Man, what a difference! I paired it with a CTS volume pot and now I can have hot overdriven tones, roll off the volume and I have clean pristine sounds as well at the turn of a knob! Thanks again, StewMac!

Great product, but........

I have used these a couple of times now and wouldn't build without one (here's where the "but" comes in)
This product does exactly what it says as far as maintaining tone set by the tone pot all the way down the volume spectrum. The only minor gripe that I have with it is that i agree with one reviewer that I read that it does seem to dramatically effect the volume curve. It seems to go from 0 to about 4 in a hurry and then kind of flattens out.
I wonder if there is a fix for that. I am entertaining using the 250 pot instead of the 500 that I usually use, but I don't think that is the cure.

I can now turn down my volume and not lose the high end. Easy to install. Highly recommend.

Absolutely as advertised

I just installed this treble bleed in my custom built guitar.
I had a PMT treble bleed on it which is a nice unit but this is a no-brainer.
It seems to draw less output from the guitar and has a great tone which is very consistent with lower volume settings. Great!
It keeps the tone settings nicely down the volume spectrum.
Again, sounds great!

This should be installed in every guitar

I installed those treble bleeds in a Les Paul and in a Telecaster. It opened up the sound of the guitar, no matter which volume position you use. The sound is overall brighter and "in your face".

Get ready for treble

I installed the higher price circuit on a 500k pot that controlled a Seymour Duncan phat cat neck and a jb alnico5 bridge. Ended up taking it out a day later. I gave these components 5 stars because they did do exactly what they said it would do and thats maintain the treble response while turning your volume knob down. It did it too well, i think i lost my bass reponse while turning down and felt it changed the overall sonicness of the guitar. My guitar seemed more treblely even with the volume on 10. Oh well, had to give it a shot.

Works great, easy to install (soldering needed)

I keep buying more of these as I have many guitars and they all seem to need them. This treble bleed circuit is a much better solution than 50s wiring schemes and they are very easy to add to any guitar's volume pot. For me, it's become a quick fix for guitars that need it.

Ruined my fade curve, can't do smooth volume swells

By

Put it in 3 different guitars, 2 single coil and 1 w humbuckers. Totally ruined the way the volume comes on. If you do any kind of volume swells you will be very disappointed as it goes from zero to about 5 as soon as you start turning the knob. However the treble is still very present through the limited range as described.
