Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our #7373 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

This made a great improvement to my Baja telecaster . The volume knob is actually usable now!

This should be installed in every guitar

I installed those treble bleeds in a Les Paul and in a Telecaster. It opened up the sound of the guitar, no matter which volume position you use. The sound is overall brighter and "in your face".

I installed the higher price circuit on a 500k pot that controlled a Seymour Duncan phat cat neck and a jb alnico5 bridge. Ended up taking it out a day later. I gave these components 5 stars because they did do exactly what they said it would do and thats maintain the treble response while turning your volume knob down. It did it too well, i think i lost my bass reponse while turning down and felt it changed the overall sonicness of the guitar. My guitar seemed more treblely even with the volume on 10. Oh well, had to give it a shot.

Works great, easy to install (soldering needed)

I keep buying more of these as I have many guitars and they all seem to need them. This treble bleed circuit is a much better solution than 50s wiring schemes and they are very easy to add to any guitar's volume pot. For me, it's become a quick fix for guitars that need it.

Ruined my fade curve, can't do smooth volume swells

By

Put it in 3 different guitars, 2 single coil and 1 w humbuckers. Totally ruined the way the volume comes on. If you do any kind of volume swells you will be very disappointed as it goes from zero to about 5 as soon as you start turning the knob. However the treble is still very present through the limited range as described.

I have a late 90's American Lonestar Strat. My volume knob was almost useless. From 10-8 was ok, 8-5 got muddy and below 5 was terrible. Read all about the different treble bleed mods and decided I would try this one with all the great reviews. The mod took about 10 minutes and that was mostly removing the strings/pick guard and putting it back together.

I'm truly blown away with the results. I get steady reduction in volume from 10-2.5 with almost no loss in tone. It was instantly noticeable for me. My volume knob works exactly how I would expect now. My only gripe is I wish I had done this 18+ years ago when I bought the guitar. For such a low cost to have such an impact I am really impressed.
