DIY nut changes now possible

With this product I'm no longer afraid to tackle nut replacements on my vintage guitars.. I have now successfully replaced nuts on a 1950 Gibson ES150 and a 1957 Kay Upbeat.

This slotted nut eliminates the need for messing around with slot files. Slots are already at the proper depth for the strings. Optimal nut height is achieved by removing material from the bottom of the nut. My palm sander worked great for this. The nut ends can be hand sanded to fit the contour of the head stock edges. Polish the nut with StewMac micro pads.

It takes some time but it is well worth the effort. It looks great -- goes perfect with aged binding. It eliminates buzz from the first fret caused by excess slot depth. It greatly improves the tone over original plastic nuts. I couldn't be more pleased.

Time saver

Full disclosure, this was to replace a crappy black Tusq nut on an aftermarket 9.5"-16" compound radius neck, not a stock Gibson. So I did need to do a little reshaping because the nut was a little tall, a tiny bit wide, and the radius didn't match -- but I expected that. That said, having a true flat bottom and accurate string spacing to begin with saved a lot of work. Having the extra material to work with was beneficial.

Excellent bone nut replacement.

I needed to replace the nut on my tele but I dont have any nut files. The pre slotted bone nut was perfect for me. The string spacing was spot on and the nut had extra material all the way around so i could fit it perfectly to the nut slot on my guitar neck.

Bone Nut for Martin drs2

By

Good product. To do the job right, you will need a Micrometer and feeler gauge. This item will have to be shaped to fit the slot that holds the nut. I didn't change the height. I did alter the thickness by first measuring the thickness of the nut I removed. This was my approximate target for the new nut. I kept sanding, measuring, and fitting until the thickness was perfect.
I then proceeded to shape the ends of the nut. This was more difficult. When you think you're close to what you need, put the nut in position and string all 6 strings while tuning them correctly. By doing so, the nut will automatically find it's center. Mark and Shape accordingly prior to gluing.
HINT:
if you want a perfect fit... You Better Do This.
By the way, My drs2 sounds much better with Bone: Nut, Saddle & Bridge Pins.
Cheers!!! WAJ
