Pretty good but not perfect

Good value for a kit and the parts were high quality.

Only had 2 issues
1. Check the dowel holes on your neck before drilling. The dowels are not the same diameter as listed in the instructions and the hole spacing may be different.

The instructions have you use thin superglue to reinforce the frets. The can wick into the end grain where the fret kerfs are. If the glue is really thin. And the instructions recommend waxing but this won't take care of the end grain which then shows through the face. Not horrible as it's only a uke but not perfect either.

I bought this because my niece wanted to have a uke to play around with. I said I would build one for her for Christmas. Since I have to build this I wanted it early so I ordered it. Stew-Mac was their usual very fast delivery and the quality looks good. Don't know if the instructions are any good but they seem to be spot on. Based on the kit this is a good buy. I'm hoping to gain some experience so I can move on to ha guitar.

Perfect if you want to start building and learn. Unfortunately I will never order again because of the custom taxes for Europe. I paid the uke twice. Please open a shop in Europe !

This is my second kit. The first one was challenging and fun. Stewmac did a great job with these. I would recommend these kits to anyone that wants to get into guitar building.

Tenor kit excellent material and instructions

First, I discovered a defect in the neck blank and contacted Stew Mac. They immediately replaced it. The kit went together exactly as the instructions 5/2018 with the only variation of having to slightly adjust the 'pinch' of the jig paper outline to fit the top/bottom. I modified the peghead shape, added a 'Musabi' soundhole and added a round sound hole in the top side. Amazing to me is that the dimension supplied in the instructions (nut to saddle front) turned out so perfectly for intonation. I fouled up by not adusting the neck square-to-centerline because the factory joint was so good that I did not feel it necessary to do the extra sanding to make it perfect. As it turned out the error in overall appearance is not noticeable and may have added to the perfect intonation. After installing the strings I found that the first fret was low causing buzz so simply lifted it about .005 ", superglued and now all good. I'm very satisfied with the finished instrument.

First time I ever built an instrument. Been a work worker my whole life, this very different. I was so happy the it turned out, bought another kit. I own two lasers and got some koa going to replace the kit top and do some inlays. Already bought plans to build a guitar from scratch !!!

Concert ukulele kit

Never built an instrument before. Very good kit. Good instructions, wood, and parts. A router table made quick work of triming top and bottom. It took 4-5 days but only 20 or so hours all with hand tools except for router and drill. Looks good and more importantly sounds good. I think I'll build couple more for Christmas or something. It was that much fun. I wish SM had the exact kit with high grade wood. I would lay out more $ Koa if it came with all the parts of this great kit. Attaching the neck was the hardest part, double check the hole placement.

Turned out Great!

A friend told me about the kit so I got one (I play guitar but never uke!). Really enjoyed making it, the printed instructions and the videos were super helpful and clear. HOWEVER...measure the hole placement for the neck dowels, the measurements in the instructions were off. Luckily I could see that they didn't look right BEFORE I drilled so I could correct it before drilling into the body. And the small bit of bracing that fits in the "X" didn't line up with the pattern, so I made a new one. Aside from that I loved making it. I changed the profile of the headstock and lasered a design onto the top, and added a pretty mosaic pin (one I made for knife handles) on the back of the neck piece. So happy with all of it, and best of all, it sounds good!!!
