About This Item

The ultimate, boutique-quality kit for fingerstyle players
Our internal team of expert builders has individually hand selected 25 sets of our best, most highly figured, AAA Figured Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) and the lightest, stiffest, most striking AAAA Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) tops in our inventory to create these kits.

EXTREMELY LIMITED—Only 25 available!
If you're looking to build a premium, Master Grade guitar, using the finest woods and materials, this is the perfect kit for you. Our most requested fingerstyle guitar woods
The combination of Figured Black Walnut and Western Red Cedar is a fingerstyle player's dream. The response from the cedar plus the clarity of the figured walnut enhances every note, and allows for an incredibly articulate tone. Fingerpicked lines are fast and dry, not full of unwanted overtones.

The reddish brown of the cedar and striking figure of the walnut make this guitar visually stunning. Paired with the elegant ebony bridge and fingerboard, the aesthetics of the woods will only be enhanced under the finish you choose.

Not only are the the top, back, and sides top quality, everything about this kit is the highest quality possible.

    It features:
  • AAAA Western Red Cedar top with soundhole and rosette channel

Beautiful Instrument

Verified Buyer

This was my first guitar build (I’ve done a few ukuleles in preparation for this) and it turned out really nice, even for my low skill level. I customized it a bit with Zipflex abalone purfling and rosette (definitely worth the cost). Also added binding to the neck.
Sounds alright, but I have been told that they take a while to settle in.
Had an issue with the sides having cracks in them, contacted Stewmac and they sent me a whole new kit free of charge and paid shipping back to them. They stand behind their product, and it shows.
Novice note: if you don’t have specialized tools you can still make the kit without having to buy many tools, just be ready for extra time and work that it will take. And I would suggest buying Stewmacs fret cutters, they were very helpful and were worth their cost in many ways.

Not master grade walnut

Verified Buyer

The kit is a reasonable price if it truly was figured walnut. I had them send a replacement kit because my set was such poor quality walnut, and the next set (although better than my first one) was still very plain. It had zero figure, and was certainly not "master grade". The rest of the parts seemed fine, although since I didn't build the guitar I cannot comment on the other aspects of this kit.
