Excellent Kit and Excellent Service!

I bought this kit to assemble and finish my first guitar on my path to becoming a luthier. The first kit arrived with a dinged nut, but StewMac's great service policy made sure I had a replacement in no time flat. If I had experience cutting a nut, I would have kept it. Granted, all the hard work of shaping the body and neck is done, so it's assembly will be quick and easy. The finishing of the guitar will be the bigger challenge as far as I'm concerned. I intend to finish it in the traditional cherry red that appears on many SGs. I have all the items I need to complete the guitar and will start by working on a spare piece of mahogany to develop a modicum of skill before starting on the guitar itself. After completion, I will return and share my efforts here.

SG Guitar Kit

I ordered this kit partly because I like SG's and also because it's a beginner kit.
All of the hard stuff has been done for you so it comes down to finishing and assembly. I haven't
started it yet but I can describe what I received.
It arrived about a week after I ordered and with no shipping damage. I was impressed with how well the neck was finished with regard to assembly ie: the shaping of the thin neck (some of
the old SG"s had fat necks), the way the frets were set (no apparent variation across the fret board), the Granadillo board with traditional inlays were nicely done with the binding and nut finished very well.
I was a little disappointed with the body because I would have preferred to do a stain finish but
it's made from several pieces that have been joined with no attention to shading or grain pattern.
Having said that... the shaping, routing, drilling is done very well and ready to finish.
As far as the hardware goes, it looks authentic...we'll see.
I will do another review when I get it finished. Looking forward to getting started on it.
