Good Kit---"BUT"!

Looks great, and as always fine quality from Uncle "Stewie", however-----! NOT a "String-Through"! The "Ball" was a bit dropped in that respect, (IMHO). This is one that might have Slipped Past Dan E.?

Always wanted to build a Tele, so I went with trying to make a Vintage 52 Butterscotch remake. Lots of fun and plays amazing. First time relic-ing.

Solid Kit

Bought this recently while on sale. Well crafted body and neck, hardware is good, perhaps not top end, but solidly good, and seems reliable, even the tuners. I did upgrade to a modern bridge, however. Other reviewers have criticized the pickups; one said his guitar tech called them "mushy". I do not find this to be the case. I am no tele expert, but they are bright, cutting, well-defined, and not screeching. Much better than the stock humbuckers that came with my Ibanez Artcore 335 knockoff in 2006 - finally replaced those with an upgrade pair, and it made a huge difference. I will NOT be doing that with these, there is no need.

good quality product, You just need sandpaper and time. Very easy to follow Instructions. Be aware if you buy this and have sent to Germany there is a large ZOLL TAX, which was not expected, it was close to 80% cost of products bought in from USA. This will stop me buying from USA.

Good Kit that goes together easily and plays well

I didn't have a Tele and It was time I did. For this build I went exclusively with what came in the box, excluding the pickguard which I swapped for a white one. While the tuners are pretty much junk and I'll swap them later, I'm pretty impressed. Everything fit together well and was a breeze to assemble. The directions are extremely helpful, especially for the final setup, which I am horrible at. The "straw water stain from StewMac is legit. Looks amazing and I used a nitro finish over the entire guitar.
The sound can go from crisp and clean to dirty and nasty. (I'm really loving the neck pickup in this) Classic tele sound. I'd recommend for a good project. It gives idle hands something to do and gives you a complete valid guitar to use when you're done.

It was fun putting this together. I didn't have time to do the neck so I bought a fender neck.

Great sale price, nice project, disappointing electronics

By

I bought this on sale for a great price, and partly because of Dan E's nice video review of the kit and his positive comments on it. I build acoustic guitars, and this was "a lark" into the other side. I enjoyed my first experience using the colortone rattle cans for finishing, both the sonic blue body and the aged clear lacquer for the neck. The mahogany body is nice. The maple neck is ok. It had one loose fret and a couple of flaws in the fret marker inlays. The front and back surfaces of the peghead were not dead flat (easy to fix, but unexpected). Once assembled and with electronics soldered and installed, the guitar certainly played music. But, in the opinion of my primary e-guitar consultant, the pickups were weak--mushy may have been the term he used. I also found that, like most of the cheap ($15) wired telecaster control plates, the wiring is not true vintage OR modern telecaster, it is something else. So I decided to upgrade the pickups to a Fender vintage set. This is on my bench right now, but the bridge pickup cannot be installed because the routed cavity is too small. I will be able to fix this, but why not use real Fender templates to route the cavities?

This is a nice project unless you want a really GOOD t-style guitar. The electronic components are just not great, and upgrading was not taken into account.

Incredible!!!

I built the StewMac T-Style Electric Guitar Kit with my daughter Sophia May (6). She picked the color (Sonic Blue) & we worked on it over a couple months (mostly waiting for the lacquer to cure). We upgraded the pickups (Golden Age), tuners (Grover locking) & bridge (Fender) - an important note is that the pickup cavities & bridge holes may need to be modified if you are using upgraded parts. I am in complete awe of how this guitar feels, plays & sounds - it is better than my Fender American Professional Telecaster in every way!
