The G-Style's mahogany body gives the ideal foundation for finding your perfect hard rock and heavy metal tone. Now you can build this rock machine!

Save BIG with a Finishing Set!
Finally, you can make this guitar look amazing with the iconic colors you've always imagined—all without complicated spray equipment! ColorTone Aerosol Finishing Sets make it simple to get professional results you'll be proud of. Choose from these classic colors:

Cherry Red Also sold separately
This is the cherry finish you know from vintage SGs, Juniors, and ES-335s. The translucent finish shows off the wood grain beautifully.

Red Mahogany Also sold separately
This set replicates that darker red/brown color seen in some SGs. This color is a vintage-looking alternative to the classic cherry.

Your Guitar Kit includes everything you'll need:
  • Mahogany body with classic contours
  • Neck pocket, pickup cavities and bridge holes are all drilled and routed for the perfect placement and fit
  • Shaped mahogany neck has a 2-way truss rod installed
  • Bound granadillo fingerboard comes pre-installed with frets and traditional crown pearloid inlays
  • Peghead is ready for your personal custom shape
  • Pre-slotted nut for perfect action
  • Chrome plated hardware—from sealed tuners to strap buttons
  • Traditional tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece
  • Humbucking pickups with chrome covers

I'm a first-time guitar builder and am super happy with this kit. It was a blast to build, sounds good and I now have the confidence to work on a guitar.

Happy with my purchase

I had an SG. We played everything together. I named it Brad....then I traded it off for a crossover when people still used crossovers and was left standing without an SG for 30 years and now have no need for a crossover. Then I rediscovered the partscaster movement and I am in deep enough to where instead of buying a real SG, I have full confidence that I can build this kit. It has been a few decades since woodshop class.

Total disclosure is that this is my 2nd kit. The 1st on showed up with a bad twist across the headstock (the reason I returned it) and a poorly filled crack in the back of the body which I could have lived with after applying some filler & paint. A call to Stew Mac's customer service line & a new hand-checked replacement kit was on it's way to me with no static or silliness that we come to fear from call center workers. Thank you for that, Stew Mac. The neck seems perfect & the body even has a hint of flame to it and is nice enough that I will be doing a natural finish.

This review gets 4 stars because I have not really progressed past inspecting the components and I feel that giving a perfect rating at this point would be insincere. I see no reason why this should not turn out well, though. I am likely to upgrade my rating once the actual build has been completed.

I have received the kit in fine fashion and pleased with the apparent quality. I look forward to starting this project.

Good kit, but wiring leaves a bit to be desired...

Decent kit, didn't exactly like the way the body was glued together, but livable... Wiring diagram leaves a bit to be desired, still getting a massive hum, after rewiring twice using diagram... Nut is very high.. Everything else is acceptable... I still like the kit tho, and will get another.. Changed hardware, pots and pickups, so all in all not a bad deal...

My first kit guitar

By

Everything was great. The instructions and informational videos were excellent. There was a discrepancy within the instructions which when I called was solved instantly. I have learned so much during the build that I will be tackling a few projects on a few other guitars. I will also feel was more educated when I look at guitars at the store. I am considering a second guitar build now!

Pretty bad

Love Stewmac for years now..Great service and tools and parts. However this kit is awful. The body is correct in dimensions but the wood is way too light. I used it to make a router template and made my own body from scratch. The neck has a large football shape inlay on the back to apparently replace a knot or blemish...must have really been bad. Tried staining it but the grain is too open, looks blotchy. Machine heads actually turn the wrong way. They will work I just have to turn in the other direction. Lastly the bridge pickup has a terrible squeal as if it was not potted and the spacing on the neck pickup is too spread apart for that position. Still works but just looks slightly off. I'm glad I only spent $200. This is actually the second one that I built from them and the first one worked much better except that the wood was the same (too light). Not the quality that I expect from STEWMAC. Everything else over the years that I have bought from them has been GREAT.

Not terrible

By

I wasn't expecting the kit to be a custom shop build, but some of the worksmanship on the body, like a bad glue job where they filled it with putty, the nut having super glue smeared all over it and the fret board. I got the kit as an introduction to guitar building for my stepson, but I should have just taught him how to build from scratch, because this has turned into more of a "this is NOT how to build a guitar" lesson.
