About This Item

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

This is the best fret wire I have ever purchased for uke building. I love it, frets popped right into the slotted finger board I had purchased from StuMac.

I'm in the process of making a cigar box guitar and thought I'd dress it up a bit with fret wire in the neck. So far it's been working fine but this is my first project like this so I'm holding back just a little until I'm more in tune with what's going on.

I used the narrow fret wire for five string banjos, it's what the makers use. I think its the best fret wire you can get.

Great fret wire as usual from Stew Mac

I’ve been using stew mac fret wire for my guitars for years because of the quality, fast shipping and great customer sevice. I just finished a custom ukelele for a client and used the narrow/medium instead of the narrow low. The frets are very comfortable and the Ukelele has great sustain. I will try the narrow/low on another Ukelele and see if there is a difference. I like the medium because there is ample crown for adjustments to the frets is need be. Great product.

I ordered several lengths of narrow fretwork for an 7th grade dulcimer project. The wire was easy to cut, press into place, and trim with a file. This product definitely added a nice touch to the class project. Thank you.

Nice fret wire for shorter scale instruments like the Ukulele that my son and I are building together.

Used it for years, yearning for a re-fret wire in that width that has some height.

I will not give it a bad mark, but everyone knows with 764, you have to have a perfect fingerboard and on vintage banjos, that is rare and if you cannot cost-effectively level the board, then you need a tall thin re-fret wire that does not exist.
