Great product if used carefully

I was able to get a finish I was proud of using this kit, but as other reviewers have noted the brown does splatter. I was able to get around this two ways:

1) Keep the can of brown in hotter water, not just warm. Warm tap water won’t be enough. I kept heating water in a small sauce pan and then added it to the bucket I kept my cans in to keep it hot. You don’t want it boiling, but definitely hotter than you’d take a bath in. Keep the water hot and put the can in the water in between coats. It will make a huge difference.

2) Work from the outside in. At no point do you want the can over the guitar. That way if you still get a splatter here or there it should land elsewhere, or worst case scenario it will land where you want a darker line anyway. I recommend starting with the back of the guitar first, so you get an idea of how this works before working on the side everyone will see.

Like the tutorial on this website suggests: practice on scrap, and be patient. Go little by little slowly working your way in. Also make sure your work area is well lit so you can clearly see how dark your brown is getting. That’s a mistake I made and there are parts were it’s a little too light and thin.

Anyway, I think this product works great you just have to be extremely careful.

Tobacco Splatters

Drips, splatters...totally ruined my burst job and had to redo. Some vertical/horizontal nozzles would also be good considering the job these are supposed to be for.

I just sprayed an Alder-bodied Tobacco Strat using these spray cans for the first time. I have to say I was extremely impressed with how little orange peel these spray cans produced after warming the cans in hot water. The colors are spot on and the Amber provides an especially beautiful finish. I would highly recommend this spray set to anyone. Well worth the price.

The black and Amber worked good. The Tobacco Brown Splattered terribly no matter if it was warmed, cold, or different nozzle it splattered quit a bit! Very frustrating time consuming to try and fix. I had to completely strip and start over twice! I don't recomend using the Tobacco Brown. Very unhappy with it.
