Build an exotic Cocobolo uke!
We've found a small stash of beautiful exotic woods that are perfect for ukuleles! Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) will make a stunning looking uke with a strong articulate voice infused with complex overtones.
Grown in Central America and Southern Mexico, Cocobolo is another top-shelf option in the rosewood family. It's visually stunning with a complex, lush voice that players from all genres will love. Cocobolo has become a favorite of high-end boutique builders due to it's rich tonal profile and exotic visual aesthetics.
Bookmatched set includes two quartersawn halves and matched sides. When joined, they are large enough for a soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele. Sides are unprofiled (rectangular) and unbent. Kiln-dried.
Back set dimensions
- Each half is approximately 5-1/2" x 13-1/4" (139mm x 336mm)
- Thickness-sanded to 1/8" (3.18mm)
Side set dimensions
- Each half is approximately 3-3/4" x 23-1/8" (95mm x 587mm)
- Thickness-sanded to 3/32" (2.38mm)
It's vital to take the proper safety precautions when working with Cocobolo. While it's an excellent tonewood and stunningly beautiful, Cocobolo ranks near the top on the wood allergy list, so please treat it with the caution it deserves. Wear long sleeves, gloves, mask, safety glasses, and use a dust collector when working with this wood.
