African Mahogany Body Blank

About This Item

The perfect starting point for making your own solidbody guitar or bass. They're joined, thickness-sanded and ready for bandsawing and routing in your shop.

Approximate dimensions:
13-3/4" x 20-1/2" x 1-3/4" (349.25mm x 520mm x 44.45mm)

African Mahogany body blanks can be shipped outside the USA, and are becoming a popular alternative to restricted traditional Honduras mahogany.

Mahogany is open-grained, and filler should be used to level the pores before applying a finish. The wood is beautiful when finished in clear or tinted lacquer.

The simplest custom build ever?

Erick Coleman builds a custom guitar that's even simpler than Bo Diddley's rectangular axe. It's a great example to show the basics of building an electric guitar.

3rd time a bit disappointing.

I've bought 2 Mahogany blanks before and were one piece.I know it now says they are joined(very nicely),but I was still expecting a one piece body as I had received 1 piece blanks before.I still think this nice, but if you want a one piece, enquire first.

Telecaster Type Guitar

By

All materials for this great guitar were provided by StewMac. Incredible combination between the brightness of the bird-eye maple neck / ebony fretboard and the warmth of the mahogany body. The EMG Telecaster series brings up a clean tele typical sound.
Compared to a Fender Tele 60th Anniversary I have, this one is slightly heavier in weight (mahogany vs. alder body) and with a touch less bright-end sound.

Very good wood

By

After reading about Sapele being a very dense wood I was surprised by how light my two pieces have been. I just weighed the last one, and it’s 4.6 kilos. This is about the same or even lighter than some Honduras Mahogany I have seen advertised online. It may still be heavier than what they had in the good old days, but the way things are now this seems like an excellent alternative. And of course, it’s perfect thickness and absolutely flat. A pleasure to work with.

My son designed a solid-body electric guitar which we call the "Jetfire." After he finished designing it, we used this mahogany body blank from StewMac to create the body. It is dense, and easy to work. We think it came out great!

Quite a pricey slab...but the piece of wood I received was of excellent quality! The grain pattern was oriented in such a way as to bring out it's maximum depth and beauty. Very pleased!
