About This Item

Fixes the nastiest cracks!
A cracked guitar side is a difficult fix, especially when the sides of the split are uneven. Here's how to pull a crack together and glue it neatly and permanently.

1. Close the crack
Our Crack Clamp uses a guitar tuner on a smooth polyethylene base. With strong thin wire, it winches the crack shut. The polyethylene won't scratch guitars, and glue doesn't stick to it.

2. Glue a perfect wooden cleat
Something new to the world of lutherie is our hardened steel Cleat Cutter. It creates perfectly round patching cleats from any wood you choose. Each cleat has a center hole for the Crack Clamp's wire. Put glue on the cleat and tighten the crack closed for a neat, professional repair.

Pump glue into the crack
Send glue deep into the crack by using the air gun with your compressor. Gentle pressure (about 10psi) does the trick.

For very long cracks, use more than one Crack Clamp at the same time.

Complete set includes:
Crack Clamp
Cleat Cutter
Air Gun (standard 1/4" NPT thread for air hose)
Suction Cup
Pin Vise
Wire
Clamp Tie Block

For those hard to reach places....

I use this tool to make cleats that I can't access to carve after installing. Much more professional looking and always lay in nice and straight with magnets...I can't say the same for square or diamond shaped cleats (-;

A decent idea but someone blew the design with one major problem.

The Achilles heel on this product is the crack clamp.StewMacYou should have used a split top Kluson tuner or a regular hole thru the post version.Trying to keep the wire secure in a totally open slot is a disaster. If I can not get this thing to work easily, Iwill be returning the whole system. Someone in the design of this thing really blew it.

Glue Air Gun

By

Good tool for forcing glue into tricky cracks in guitar bodies, tops, and anywhere else. My only complaint is that the website implies the suction cup on the end of the tool, which is necessary, was sold separately, so I bought one along with the gun. When the gun arrived it had a suction cup with it, so now I have two suction cups. Didn't need to buy the second one. At about 4 bucks it's not a big deal, but I feel a little hosed. StewMac should make it clear that the gun comes with a suction cup.

Hard to rate

I don’t know how many stars I should give. The system in itself works very well. It does the job as described. But in my case the most difficult part was to hide the hole that you have to pierce in order to let the wire get through. The instructions say it is very easy to fill and hide. But in a western cedar top the hole is very evident. I could not find a way to hide it. Maybe it’s me, I don’t know. It looks very bad

Fixing a crack is a breeze when this setup. So much simpler and really makes sense. Does not come with directions so watch the video. It's all you need. It's that simple to use.

Great Repair System

By

This is the best crack repair system anywhere. I make the repair disks out of spruce, rosewood, and mahogany to match guitar bodies and tops. Simple, fast and great results. We have never had a guitar re-crack after using this system. We also ordered several extra crack clamps for large soundboard repairs. Thanks Stew-Mac!

I use them all the time

I use these for all kinds of crack repair on guitars and violin family instruments. Great for side repairs and long cracks in flat top guitar repairs. I Have done one modification that works great for me. I attach the suction cup to a syringe, when using hot hide glue. I have a reservoir of glue for those long cracks and I can force the hot glue in deep.
