StewMac Plunge Router Base

About This Item

Our sturdy base turns your Dremel into a compact plunge router—perfect for inlays, routing saddle slots, cleaning fret slots and more. The advanced design gives an unobstructed view of the cutting action.

It's very simple to set the precision depth adjustment, then plunge and raise the bit exactly that amount. Each turn of the knurled micro depth stop gives approximately 1/32" of adjustment, to a maximum depth of one inch.

    Designed for stringed instrument work
  • Excellent control
  • Clear visibility
  • Maneuverable for accurate freehand work
  • Works with our Saddle Slotting Jig

Sturdy, compact, and adjustable
You can plunge-rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for minimum sanding later.

The ball grips give you excellent control for freehand routing and easy operation of the plunge feature. The built in LED light bar gives you a fully lighted view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a Mini Air Pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

Great tool!

I recently had the chance to put this tool to work. The light was a great idea. Adjustable depth of cut was perfect. I wish I had gotten one sooner. Made my work easier.

Durable and Precise!

This tool is extremely well built and was obviously very well thought out by the designer. It allows me to cut very straight saddle slots and it also allows me to install 5th string banjo spikes (a job I to a LOT) without worrying as much about breaking bits because it keeps the bits perpendicular to the fingerboard. (For the spikes I did have to slightly alter the base in order to clear the pips on most banjos) The base of the unit fits easily between the frets and the strings-you only need to mark the spike’s location and loosen the 5th string to move it out of the way.

I own and still use the old style base with the individually adjustable thumbwheels that control the depth of cut and it is good, but it can’t compete with this one.

As a person who is generally apprehensive about buying the latest gizmo, I am nothing but happy about this purchase. Good job!

Plunge Dremel base

Have been playing with this base for a couple days now. High quality plunge base with depth stop and micro adjustment that are quite nice. Only complaint is the light as so many others have also mentioned. The light is awesome but it’s position is horrible concerning obstructing view. I suggest Stew MAC simply remove it and lower the cost accordingly. First thing I did was take it off and simply put on my head lamp...problem solved.

Plunge with LED

Used this on my first Mother-of-pearl inlay on Guitar peghead. Between the ease of setting depth-of-cut and the Led work light mounted on the rear, it made my Dremel 4000 sing. It also made my guitar pop.

This is a GREAT product!

I had looked at the Dremel plunge router base (thinking I would save some $$) but was not at all impressed! It was hardly a “precision” tool at all!
This, however, is the epitome of “precision!” My first job for it was to add a b-w-b inlay alongside a joined center strip on a back that I had purchased already joined and sanded. I couldn’t believe how precisely I was able to control everything - from the lining up of the 1/32 bit at the edge of the center strip (on each side of it) to the depth of the channel. When all was said and done, the b-w-b strips fit perfectly and it looks like they were a part of the joint all along! To say that I am impressed with this tool accessory is putting it mildly! If you are looking for a way to do some precision routing with your Dremel tool, don’t waste your time and money on the cheap Dremel product. This is the way to go!
By the way, I don’t like waiting for anything but StewMac’s shipping experience is always great! Their packing is excellent and they ship when they say they are!
I have ordered a lot from StewMac over the past couple of years and have NEVER been disappointed!

This base is well designed and operates as described by STUMAC. It easily attaches to the circle cutting jig for cutting circles and rosette channels. I would recommend both tools as highly useable and accurate.

A must have!

I used the router base for the install time yesterday to recess a rear cavity cover plate on a solid body guitar. It made quick easy and neat work out of it. Very manueverable and comfortable, and the inclusive deed led light provides all of the light you possibly need
