Tuner Pin Drill Jig

About This Item

Aligns your hand drill for accurate tuning machine mounting pin holes.

This anodized aluminum jig accurately locates mounting pin holes in the back of a guitar headstock. Use it before drilling for the alignment pins found on many modern enclosed tuning machines. These tuners don't use the traditional exposed tuner mounting screw, but rather a hidden pin on the underside of the tuner housing.

It keeps your hand drill perpendicular for accuracy, and works for left or right-side tuners. You can position single-pin Schaller tuners, two-pin Schallers, one-pin Sperzels, and Fender locking tuners. The jig fits into the peghole with a self-centering bushing and thumbscrew for quick and easy attachment. Instructions included.

This jig is designed for use with a No. 38 (.101") drill bit for all holes except for the Schaller M6 two pin, which requires a No. 42 (.093") or 3/32" (.094") drill bit. Measure the height of the alignment pins on your tuners and drill the holes to the appropriate depth.

Great tool. After I used this it, I figured out how It can be improved. To use this tool you must measure carefully. If you get two, and cut the end of at least one of them, then screw them together with a metal strip, it becomes self aligning. Plus you can drill two at a time, really saves time with six in line. 3D modeling is my thing, so here's a mockup. Hint Hint.

Bought this for a new neck that didn't have the 2 pin holes required for the Fender locking tuners. Works perfect. Got the holes drilled, no sweat, tuners lined up perfect.

Did the job

Bought this to drill guide holes for Fender/Shaller tuners in a Warmouth neck and it worked perfectly. The drill size that fits in the jig was not quite big enough for the tuner guide pins, so I had to drill the holes out 1/32 larger.

A great time saver!

Have one of these around somewhere, but misplaced it. Needed to get another one for a tuner install job on a current project. I use this mostly to install Schaller single pin locking tuners (occasionally, the two pin version). I use an adjustable square on the flat edge of the Fender headstock to ensure proper alignment. Without this jig...the job would take a whole lot longer, just to align the pin location properly. I highly recommend this jig!
