Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig

About This Item

Design update: now works for ukuleles, too!
Cut perfect soundholes and rosette channels for guitars and ukes.

Easy and accurate, this jig now adjusts from 6"-diameter to a small 2" cut for ukuleles.

Another innovation from StewMac
The Soundhole and Rosette Routing Jig is a quality machined tool, designed to be used with our Precision Router Base and works with your Dremel. Router base and rotary tools are not included.

  • Solid aluminum and brass parts
  • Adjusts from 2" to 6"-diameter cuts (50.8mm to 152.4mm)
  • Indexing scale to quickly set routing diameter
  • 3/16" registration pin for perfectly concentric circles
  • Mounting screws and instructions included

How it works
Attach the jig to the router base, then mount your Dremel or Foredom tool. Insert the registration pin through the center of the uncut soundhole, and into your work surface. Place the jig on the pin. Set the diameter of cut with the adjusting screw, and lock it down. The router base adjusts the cutting depth. Rout your rosette rings first, then cut out the soundhole.

For the cleanest cut when routing tonewoods, we recommend the Carbide Downcut Bits.

Alternate use for the rosette routing jig.

I am not a guitar maker but a maker of boxes, lamps and clocks. I had been looking for a way to accurately create a circle or ring in wood to surround the face or dial of a clock. This requires very fine set up and cutting and actually the making of two cuts to make the ring. I anticipate that this jig will do just that as I haven't actually used it yet. I was also pleased that the plunge base I own from Veritas for the Dremel rotary tool fit up perfectly with the Stew Mac rosette cutting jig. Only the two attachment screws had to be changed.

Nice tool

Good tool for cutting rosette channels and sound hole. My only issue is the tool comes with a 3/16” center pin. My jugs are built around a 1/4” center hole and I had to adapt the tool for that. Would like to see 1/4” version or maybe even interchangeable pins of different sizes.

I started building Ukuleles in the summer of 2018, I have been a woodworker for over 35yrs & I have used many circle cutters. The Stew Mac Circle cutting jig is Very accurate & easy too use. I highly recommend this

Great but could do with better scale

By

I use it with precision router base, and while it does the job, setting the diameter is a pain. The inscribed scale is very crude (diameter only in inches, by 1/5ths increments) and I have had to glue on a ssteel rule to give me mm. I would also like it to go a bit smaller for cutting out uke soundholes. No surprise StewMac have added a better tool - the rosette router base.

Accuracy, Precision and Control

This jig is incredibly well machined and an enormous step up from other circle jigs out there. I had complete control and could dial in the accuracy to perfectly set my rosette. Some tools you need to struggle with to dial in; this one was a joy to use.

Bought this to make my own rosettes and cut inlay in guitar tops, Super quality and workmanship definitely should have bought one sooner!!

Nice circle Cutter

This jig is very useful & accurate for cutting circles for rosettes. My only issue with this jig is I also bought Stew Macs precition plunge base for the dremel & when I attach the circle cutter to this base it leaves a very tiny opening in which I can see where my bit is lined up with my Mark's to cut the slot for my rosette, When I say a small space I mean a Tiny space but I guess these two items were not made for each other. Other than that the circle cutter is very nice.

Circles

Infinitely better than other dremmel router jigs I have come across for cutting circles- the key challenge is cutting an exact hole to hold the rod that acts as the fulcrum. If you do this well - then perfect rosette circles are yours!

Almost perfect

Excellent fit and finish with fine adjustment mechanism. Only complaint is the radius scale is silkscreens and can be scraped off with with your fingernails. Would love to have movable scale that can be calibrated for bit size.

Terrific !

Works just as stated. Only regret is I should have bought this years ago, it makes perfect rosettes and cuts out the sound holes very easily.
