Dragon Hand-cut Rasp

About This Item

Fast working, super-smooth cut.
Unequaled for neck shaping and contouring.

Dragon handcrafted steel rasps have become our first choice for quickly shaping instrument necks, solidbody guitar contours, custom jigs and clamping cauls.

Double-cut rasp has two different radii for quickly shaping a neck heel or the base of a peghead.

Dragon rasp teeth are individually hand-struck on both sides of each file, leaving a slightly random pattern that a machine-made rasp simply can't equal. This reduces chattering and "wandering," giving a smooth but aggressive cut.

Dragon rasps have the right shapes for contouring a variety of neck sizes.

Use the coarse rasp to quickly shape:
• Solidbody contours
• Necks and bridges
• Jigs and cauls

Follow with the fine rasp for:
• Final shaping
• Smoothing
• Softening corners

Large 10" long x 1-5/8" wide   (254mm x 41.28mm)
Small 6" long x 1-3/16" wide (152mm x 30.16mm)
Double-radius 7" long x 7/8" wide (178mm x 22.22mm)

Must Have!

Started building guitars from my teacher (Dennis Hill) and so far I’ve only really needed two tools. This and a dozuki hand saw. This is a great rasp. Curved side is the heels worst nightmare lol. Highly recommend!

Dragon file Rocks!

Seriously, this is the best file for fine shaping. I use a heavier rasp or a spokeshave for the rough cuts, but this file does the finish work. some 220 after that and your pretty much done. I only have the rough cut dragon file. I have the fine one at work, but this one does the bulk of the work.

Was hoping this would cut more aggressively

By

I bought this hoping to use it to quickly shape necks but the cut is far too shallow. I ordered the coarse version and thought maybe I got the wrong one because the teeth looked so tiny but StewMac confirmed I had the correct one. It cuts smoothly with no chatter but it's definitely not a fast cutter. I like the tapered shape for getting into tighter areas but I don't actually have much use for it because it's just not aggressive enough. If you're looking for an agressive cutter, this isn't it.

Wow what a great tool

This large coarse Dragon rasp cuts better than any wood rasp I've ever owned and is a pure joy to use. Aggressive, yet smooth and chatter free, and doesn't clog. Especially great for sculpting hard maple end grain on the heel. With its tapered needle point, the large rasp also fits any radii guitar-wise. What a great tool, wow.

$50.00 =/- seems like a lot of money for a rasp; but I've gotta tell you, its worth every penny!

Fantastic rasp!

I went with the large-course and it is excellent. The taper allows me to do a lot of different curved areas, and the large flat side helps me get closer to flat before sanding. It has been said before, but it is really interesting how you can push hard and be aggressive with this rasp or back off the pressure to get a fine surface. My other rasps can cut a little faster but they don't clean up when the pressure is lightened.
