Soundhole Clamps

About This Item

These clamps reach where others can't. Ideal for clamping bridges and braces through a soundhole.

Our popular soundhole clamps feature strong steel frames, light weight and slim profiles for multiple clamping through the soundhole of a classical or steel-string guitar. Ideal for clamping bridges and braces through a soundhole. Available in four lengths. Leveling screw gives extra support for clamping bridges and braces. The 7", 9" and 11" models have a special leveling screw to help support the clamp's weight and prevent unwanted bending of the soundboard.

The shorter clamps give increased clamping coverage at the guitar's bridge and shoulder areas.

Our soundhole clamps also have knurled thumbscrews, height-adjustable jaw screws for clearance of internal braces, and jaw feet that swivel to conform to uneven surfaces (maximum opening is 1-7/8"). Each clamp is 1/2" (12.7mm) wide.

Prevent dents: Check out our Soundhole Clamp Cauls that snap onto the feet of these clamps for a larger clamping footprint, padded surface, and grooves that make it easier to clamp on braces.

I used these clamps to install a bridge plate and bridge on a 1957 triple O 18 Martin. These clamps are sturdy and won't break the bank.

Thanks StewMac.

Not working for me...

By

Bought a 11''clamp with the Thompson crack repair kit (which is good) in order to clamp the jig over a crack near the tailblock.

I can't even put the clamp through the soundhole!!! Either the clamp is made to be used through F-holes of a hollowbody or the larger clamps need to have a wider opening.

At 50$(CDN) a pop, I think it's unacceptable to have such a design flaw.

Response from StewMac

Hello Dave,
We are very sorry that the 11" soundhole clamp did not fit in the soundhole of your guitar as expected. Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us. Please know that this clamp is more intended for jobs when the top, back and sides are not fully assembled. I will pass your feedback to our technical department as well as our marketing department to update this information on our website. Remember, your satisfaction is guaranteed. If you are not satisfied, you may return it for a refund or exchange. Once again, we are sorry for this inconvenience and appreciate your feedback.

The right tool for the job

You can get cast aluminum or wooden clamps for bridges, but they are thicker. The cast aluminum Ibex clamps may be stiffer (which leads some to think they're stronger), but that doesn't really matter. The wood getting clamped will be destroyed long before these or the aluminum clamps endure strain from over tightening them. These pressed sheet steel clamps are narrow, which makes it easier to:

* get them into tight spaces.
* get your fingers/hands between them.
* have them closer together when needed.

If you need clamps in this size, start with these. Sure, you can experiment with wooden or aluminum clamps, but you'll want these steel clamps handy when the going gets tough.

Good clamps for most bridge re-gluing

I needed these for additional help on a top repair/ bridge and bridge plate redo. These clamps and the Ibex clamps I have used for decades complement each other. The Sound Hole clamps are good for the outer wings of a bridge as they follow the radius of the top after main clamping with the stronger Ibex clamps in the center, string peg area.

I used these to help re-glue a patch under the bridge and the bridge itself on an old Epiphone Hummingbird.
