Tuner Pin Drill Jig

About This Item

Aligns your hand drill for accurate tuning machine mounting pin holes.

This anodized aluminum jig accurately locates mounting pin holes in the back of a guitar headstock. Use it before drilling for the alignment pins found on many modern enclosed tuning machines. These tuners don't use the traditional exposed tuner mounting screw, but rather a hidden pin on the underside of the tuner housing.

It keeps your hand drill perpendicular for accuracy, and works for left or right-side tuners. You can position single-pin Schaller tuners, two-pin Schallers, one-pin Sperzels, and Fender locking tuners. The jig fits into the peghole with a self-centering bushing and thumbscrew for quick and easy attachment. Instructions included.

This jig is designed for use with a No. 38 (.101") drill bit for all holes except for the Schaller M6 two pin, which requires a No. 42 (.093") or 3/32" (.094") drill bit. Measure the height of the alignment pins on your tuners and drill the holes to the appropriate depth.

Works like a charm

I'm assembling a partscaster and I had several sets of sperzel locking tuners, a set of kluson locking tuners, and a set of schaller locking tuners. The variety of locating holes will line up with all three, so its versatile. Used it yesterday 6/3/19 for the first time. It worked well and fortunately for me pretty idiot proof. The results were excellent.

Great tool

I purchased this jig after being frustrated by other methods of drilling locator pin holes. Inevitably, the holes were "just a little off" using the indent methods. So I bit the bullet and purchased the tool. It works wonderfully. The price is a little high, but I will share the jig with friends to lower the cost per project.

You gotta buy 2!!

By

As Jonathan @ Feline Guitars said, you gotta buy at least 2 but maybe his idea of 3 is even better. For the price, I wish it came with a dummy block for hobbyists so you wouldn't have to buy 2. Trying to line up a single jig by eye or straight-edge 6 times is BS, meaning you won't get it exactly straight and you'll wish you'd bought two to make that job fool-proof. Buy two.

Pin locator

Seems I have been putting a lot of locking tuning machines on for friends and for myself as well.
I did make a jig out of wood that worked for a little while and was never really quite sure if it was gonna work for me.
I ended up buying one from Stewmac and it not only does a very nice job , but it takes away all the risk I was taking before I received my locator jig from Stewmac.
Also it came to my front door in just a couple of days. Thank you Stewmac L&R Philthy

I upgraded a '52 American Vintage Telecaster w/Sperzel locking tuners and these jigs worked perfectly. I ended up purchasing 2 which makes alignment much easier.

Excellent product that worked well, no issues.

I went to install a set of Fender Deluxe locking tuners on a MIK Fender Toronado. The Deluxe locking tuner pins did not align with the pin holes for the MIK tuners. I had to drill new holes and this jig worked perfectly. Side note, the Fender Deluxe locking tuner completely covers over the old MIK pin holes.

Perfect for my needs

Loved this jig. I used it (along with the drill bit set I bought from StewMac) to drill the pin holes for some new tuners on a new neck. I used a finger drill with the bits and the delicate job was a piece of cake. Thanks StewMac!

A very useful tool to take out the guess work and is very productive. May get a few more to make the process even faster.
