Gripper Truss Rod Wrenches

About This Item

Dang! Somebody used the wrong size wrench, and now you can't adjust that worn Allen truss rod nut. Fear not, our Gripper wrenches can save the day!

Each wrench has a 3/8"-long end that tapers from slightly undersize to slightly oversize, giving you a snug fit to turn the nut and avoid a costly replacement job.

Our veteran guitar technicians developed these high quality steel truss rod wrenches. The length, comfortable rubberized handles, durability and variety of sizes let you perform formerly difficult truss rod adjustments with ease. The straight wrenches are 12-1/2" long, keeping your knuckles safely away from the peghead.

#6210-G Gripper wrench has a special angled handle for tuner clearance on 6-in-line pegheads. For 1/8" Allen nut; 2" reach.

Special notes for the soundhole wrenches
4mm is for Hot Rod truss rods. #6110-G is for pre-August 2007 Martins; #6114-G and #6212-G are for later Martins. Triple-bend wrenches provide clearance under the guitar's braces.

Had a '90's American Std Strat come thru with a hopelessly mangled truss rod nut-- 3-4 previous "techs" had destroyed the hex adjuster and the owner came to me hoping for a Hail Mary Pass.

So I tried various hex wrenches and approaches, to no avail.

Ordered the Gripper 1/8" long-handle wrench, removed a couple tuners for a better angle for the wrench and had a go at it-- no luck. Argh! The wrench would spin in a clockwise direction, and purchase in a counter-clockwise manner. The real problem with this Strat neck was miles of relief, so it seemed hopeless. Called the customer with the bad news, Bummer.

Over night I had a thought-- this Gripper wrench is tapered, so what if I ground 3/16" off the business end, allowing for MAYBE more bite?? Well, I ground the wrench and Lo & Behold, IT WORKED!! Over some time, I was able to adjust the neck and get 90% of the excess relief out of it, happily delivering a very playable Strat back to a Jubilant owner! it was fun to make the second call that I pulled a Rabbit out of my hat! Playing the guitar on delivery, the owner was ecstatic.

I'm happy and grateful that Stew Mac continues to offer tools like this for techs like me, because ultimately it meant I got the musician back playing a guitar that was written off as a total loss. Thanks, Stew Mac!!

WOW...Another Great tool from StewMac!!

I bought a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz bass incredibly cheap on ebay and it just needed some TLC. I needed to straighten the neck but found that some bright spark had partially stripped the truss rod nut (probably tightening it under tension). You could see that the corners of the truss rod nut were starting to round off and a 5mm Hex key wasn't gripping as tight as it should which meant I ran the risk of stripping it completely. I saw this tool on StewMac and thought it was worth a try. Bingo!! The Gripper grabbed onto the nut nice and tight so that I could tighten the truss rod.

Thank You StewMac

Son needed 1 wrench for stripped nut. I got him the complete set for Christmas. He’ll be prepared for any model that comes in the door now. Arrived before Christmas. Dan’s YouTube videos are worth thousands of dollars of education and business savvy. A great American company!

This enabled me to adjust the truss rod even though the nut was stripped. I will probably replace the nut, but in the meantime, I can actually adjust the rod now.
