8" Radius Blocks

About This Item

Accurately true or change a fingerboard's radius and level frets.
We make these hardwood blocks for use with Stikit Abrasives, to radius a fretboard quickly, accurately and without guesswork.

Shaping fingerboards: use 80 through 220-grit
Leveling frets: use 220 through 400-grit

When working on compound radius fretboards, simply change blocks as you progress along the neck.

Dimensions: 8" (203.20mm) long x 2-3/4" (69.85mm) wide

See our shorter blocks for spot leveling, and for use as clamping cauls when gluing frets.

What's your radius?
Quickly find the curvature of a fingerboard or bridge with a set of radius gauges. Use them frequently to check your work as you smooth or shape a fingerboard or frets: a quick visual check keeps you from accidentally altering the shape—a mistake that's easy to make and hard to fix.

Can never have too many of these. Little pricey but when you need
it and it works, it's a little easier to take.

8” radius blocks

OK, I have a collection of these lovely little devices as I have my main shop here in Mexico and my other small but effective one in England. These tools I find the best size for fret dressing as they are not as cumbersome as my long aluminium radius blocks which are Perfect for fingerboard radiusing. Used with a radius identifying tool to establish the correct block to use and applied with adhesive paper, Love, Patience and attention to detail the results are highly rewarding. Comfortable to use and built to last, a great tool. Love them.

Early 80s Ibanez AR100 customizing

The frets were badly worn so I pulled them, and added block inlays on the rosewood fret board. Got the 12" radius sanding block to smooth out the inlays and wood. The sanding block worked very well. Just about ready for the new frets.

Wooden ones are my standard

I have many of these, different radius, different lengths. This was one I needed. Came very close to making one successfully on my table saw, but not quite right.
These are just right, and with PSA backed paper in 320 or 400 grit, they make a great way to level frets without taking too much off. I only wish they could come up with one that was somehow adjustable!!

The block worked well. We attach the sandpaper with double-stick tape to the curved surface and it produced the desired curve. We were sanding rosewood.
