3M Flexible Polishing Papers

About This Item

'Finishing fabric' conforms to any surface. Strong micro-grit papers so flexible you can use them like cloth, wet or dry!

Because they conform to any surface shape, they're great for polishing contoured guitar finishes, frets, plastic pickguards, pearl inlays and more. The first samples we received were jealously hoarded in our shops, quickly becoming favorites for polishing nuts and saddles, and for touchups in lacquer finishes.

"Indispensable for polishing bone and pearl nuts. They leave a gorgeous luster with no dark residue in porous bone."
—Don MacRostie, Red Diamond Mandolins

Each sheet is coated on one side with micron-graded particles of aluminum oxide (1200-8000 grit) or silicon carbide (400-600 grit), on an extremely flexible non-woven .007" synthetic backing.

The pattern coating won't clog quickly. They leave no dark residue in porous bone nuts and saddles. The durable tear-resistant sheet washes easily in water.

Each sheet is a generous 8.5" x 11" (215.9mm x 279.4mm).

"The most versatile abrasive in my shop."
—Erick Coleman

"Lasts a long time, and so flexible you can buff shoeshine-style!"
—Dan Erlewine

Needed for final sanding.

By

Verified Buyer

I am a soap stone carver and after the usual five sanding's that we use, these papers are used for the final sanding. Talk about a beautiful polish, these papers will do it. Only three are used before we put the stone into our solar oven (foil lined box set in the sunshine) to warm before we do our wax on, wax off and it's done for several times.

Perfect for a smooth finish

I did a CA glue repair and didn’t want to go through wet/dry sanding. I ordered these and blended it right in to a smooth gloss.

Determining the abrasive side of these fine polishing fabrics

By

Verified Buyer

1. These work great!!!!

2. It appears that the "rough" side is the woven pattern and the backing is the "random-looking" side

3. Determining this can be a challenge with the extremely fine fabrics 6000 & 8000 grit.

4; Try polishing a finger nail, say 20 strokes, with one side and another finger nail, same number of strokes, with the other side of the fabric. The better polishing job is the "cutting" side.

The Bees Knees !!!

Great for repairing or levelling french polish finishes. Nothing else like them. And to remove nail marks from a top? Cover your french polish pad with the green paper and use as you normally would with shellac and oil. Those nail marks will disappear. Thanks for carrying this top secret!

Saved me from the bad memory

Worked as advertised. I also purchased the small foam buffing pad, and fine polishing compound. All worked wonderfully, and saved me from having to deal with a dent in the finish of my guitar.
Thanks StewMac, Now I'm waiting for my next order...should be here tomorrow!

A must have for finishes

I use the different grits for my ukulele finishes. They work great around curved surfaces. Much better than "paper" ...

Makes bone shine

I finish every nut and saddle off with these polishing papers—it's the finishing touches like this that make a setup really stand out. These are surprisingly strong and yet cut easily with scissors/razor for custom sized strips. While I primarily use them for polishing bone, they also are indispensable for spot polishing drop fills.

A critical piece of my setup/finishing kit.
