Precision Router Base

About This Item

A more stable way to support your Dremel. Our sturdy, compact base is the best way to hold a Dremel for freehand routing, inlaying, widening fret slots and more.

Made of machined steel, brass and aluminum, it features precision cutting depth adjustment with large thumbwheels to eliminate guesswork.
Designed especially for stringed instrument work.
  • Excellent control
  • Easy installation
  • Accurate freehand routing
Sturdy, compact, and adjustable.
Each turn of the large knurled thumbwheels adjusts your Dremel's cutting depth by .035" (.889mm). You can rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for less sanding later.

Tall twin handles give you excellent control for freehand routing, and you get a good view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a mini air pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

And here's a tip from Dan Erlewine: clamp the Dremel and router base upside-down on your workbench, and use the bottom of the router base as a mini drum sander, as Dan Erlewine did for a Gibson L-1 archtop bridge in this issue of our Trade Secrets Newsletter.

Installation is easy.
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the Precision Router Base. Its 3/4-12 thread fits:
Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
Our Foredom custom handpiece

The title says it all. I wish I could have afforded the more adjustable version, that being said the base model is fantastic and the engineering and manufacturing of the tool is simply awesome!!!

very nice

From the photo this may look overly simple for the price but it is well made and very easy/accurate to set up. I like my SM plunge router Dremel base, but for inlaying odd shapes this is both light and easy to move and stable. It is my go-to for diamond fretboard inlays. I bought a nebulizer machine (air pump) for short dough through Wall Martians, hooked it to the inlet and good to go - no stopping to blow dust.

tools are our ffriends

quality tools make a job easier to perform. I do not consider building a guitar a job though. As an amateur I have built 12 guitars from scratch and am always looking for ways to make the act easier and more importantly better. This tool does just that.

Great for Rosettes

I have a Dremel for home and a cheap Ozito for work, BOTH work beautifully in this device.
Should come with a locating (centering) pin though.

Best tool for initial relief for sculpting guitar bodies

Lets you see what you are doing. With the down or up cut special bits does a good clean job of quickly cutting away background ares to start relief carvings on guitar bodies. The air pump is a little low powered but keeps the cut cleaner much longer than without it, so I do use it. A little stronger would be better.

Customer service couldn't be better!

In the middle of a job I knocked my stewmac router base off the bench onto the floor and broke the studs. I called stew mac and they immediately solved my problem and sent me a new router base. At no charge. The old router base was 10 years old. They went way above and beyond normal customer service for me. That is one of the reasons I continue to buy their products. Thank you Stewmac!!!
