Fret Erasers

About This Item

An easy way to make your frets shine! Fret Erasers™ are flexible self-padded rubber blocks embedded with abrasive grits.

They're incredibly handy—use them in sequence as a final step on freshly-crowned frets, to erase fine file marks and scratches. The grits are color-coded for convenience. Frets gleam, and play buttery-smooth.

"I used to wrap abrasive papers around small rubber blocks, but that got a little clumsy. Fret Erasers are simpler and faster. No more sandy grit or sharp steel wool particles."
—Erick Coleman, repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Each Fret Eraser is 2-1/2" x 3/4" x 3/8" (63.50mm x 19.05mm x 9.52mm)

SAVE when you order the complete set of 7 grits: 220, 400, 800, 1200, 2000, 4000, and 8000.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Fret Erasers - not bad, but could be better

I was a little disappointed in these after using them. They do their job - but from my experience, not as good as the Micro-Mesh Touch-Up sticks (which I highly recommend). If you buy and use all 7 erasers that are available (220, 400, 800, 1200, 2000, 4000, and 8000), you'll get pretty decent fret wires - but still won't be as good as using the Micro-Mesh Touch-Up sticks.

From a time management perspective, using the Fret Erasers will take at least 7 passes, whereas the Touch-Up sticks only require 3. You'll get more use/longevity out of the Fret Erasers than the Touch-Up sticks, so a compromise could be to start out with the Fret Erasers and finish with the Touch-Up sticks (if cost > time). If time is more important than cost, then I'd recommend just buying a ton of the Touch-Up sticks. I think you'll be more pleased with the results than what you can get with just the Fret Erasers.

Doesn't work as well as described.

I'll find a use for these somewhere. I will continue to use sand paper and polishing compound.

These fret polishing erasers are great. They really cut down on wasted time while polishing. I highly recommend these.

I think you really need the whole set

I have the whole set and when I run the entire set over a fret working from coarse to fine they really do a FANTASTIC job!

Okay but not great

I did not enjoy these much as I did. I bought the red eraser (1200 grit I believe) to clean up some frets before a polish. I felt like they did not do what I needed to do, but honestly I may have just needed a finer grit for that job... The polishing papers seem to do a better job for me, and may be more user friendly for an amateur. Other wise, a great product with incredible quality! Is very similiar to a rubber eraser, but with grit!

Great Results

I have been using these fret erasers for about 2 years and am pleased with the results. In that time I have polished more than 50 re-frets with my original set so they do last surprisingly long. Once you have worn a grove into them they will polish the sides and top of the wire at the same time which speeds the work quite a bit. I hear some people use a file to start a groove but I have not tried doing that. Players always comment on how nice my fret-work looks since I started using fret erasers.

Fret Erasers

I ordered an 800 and 2000 grit fret erasers for my epiphone 335. Service was fast and friendly. I have not had an opportunity to use them yet since the strings don't need to be changed just yet but I'm going to go over them lightly when I do. Not really having any issue's with the guitars frets but won't hurt to smooth them out some.
