Fret Erasers

About This Item

An easy way to make your frets shine! Fret Erasers™ are flexible self-padded rubber blocks embedded with abrasive grits.

They're incredibly handy—use them in sequence as a final step on freshly-crowned frets, to erase fine file marks and scratches. The grits are color-coded for convenience. Frets gleam, and play buttery-smooth.

"I used to wrap abrasive papers around small rubber blocks, but that got a little clumsy. Fret Erasers are simpler and faster. No more sandy grit or sharp steel wool particles."
—Erick Coleman, repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Each Fret Eraser is 2-1/2" x 3/4" x 3/8" (63.50mm x 19.05mm x 9.52mm)

SAVE when you order the complete set of 7 grits: 220, 400, 800, 1200, 2000, 4000, and 8000.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Excellent!

I love these things. I have a Jackson that is creeping up on 30 years old. The frets have never been leveled, polished, or any work done on them at all. The usual issues were visible so I went to work on them with these erasers. Every dent, scratch, and imperfection "erased"!

I like them so much I even made a caddy for them. Excellent addition to the fret tool arsenal.

Awesome results

After addressing some uneven frets on an old bass I recently got, I used the fret erasers to finish up the ones I filed, and to clean years of who knows what off the rest of the frets. They worked perfectly to get the frets in top shape and looking new again.

OK, but I've gone back to micro-mesh for fret work

I do at least some fretwork on every guitar that comes through the shop. I thought these might be an improvement over my long-used method of micro-mesh and a stainless fingerboard guard. Frankly, they were no faster or easier, and left annoying eraser bits that needed to be cleaned up. I've abandoned these and returned to using micromesh -- I have a set of micromesh sheets reserved only for this purpose.

Must Have!

These are a must if you're a luthier or do-it-yourselfer. For heavily worn or just plain old dull, tarnished frets they work great. Just be careful with the heavier grit. Great product that I've used for years with excellent results.

These do an incredible job!

I bought these to polish up after taking down and re-curving a high fret or two instead of polishing them on the polishing wheel. I just used them after filing fret edges due to a shrunken fingerboard. I used all 7 of them and it did a fantastic job! I got the same result as my polishing wheel but without the messy clean up. I didn't even have to remove the strings. I take my hat off to whoever invented this great set of fret erasures!

Fret Erasers - not bad, but could be better

By

I was a little disappointed in these after using them. They do their job - but from my experience, not as good as the Micro-Mesh Touch-Up sticks (which I highly recommend). If you buy and use all 7 erasers that are available (220, 400, 800, 1200, 2000, 4000, and 8000), you'll get pretty decent fret wires - but still won't be as good as using the Micro-Mesh Touch-Up sticks.

From a time management perspective, using the Fret Erasers will take at least 7 passes, whereas the Touch-Up sticks only require 3. You'll get more use/longevity out of the Fret Erasers than the Touch-Up sticks, so a compromise could be to start out with the Fret Erasers and finish with the Touch-Up sticks (if cost > time). If time is more important than cost, then I'd recommend just buying a ton of the Touch-Up sticks. I think you'll be more pleased with the results than what you can get with just the Fret Erasers.
