Understring Radius Gauges

About This Item

Fast, accurate bridge saddle adjustment.
Each of these unique gauges has an accurately radiused arc on both the top and bottom surfaces, and is shaped to fit easily under the strings.

Use the bottom curvature to determine your fretboard radius, and the matching top curvature becomes a reference for setting string saddle heights for best playability.

Low profile fits tight spots. The slim shape of our understring gauges allow you to read the fretboard radius even with the strings on! This is also handy for matching pickup polepiece heights to the arc of the strings. And setting bridge saddles is easier than ever.

The set of 9 gauges includes:
7-1/4", 9-1/2", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17" and 20" radii.

Standard width 6-string guitars and most 4-string basses—spans a string spread up to 2-5/8" (66.68mm).

Extra-wide covers string spreads up to 3-3/4" (95.25mm)—enough for 4-string, 5-string, and many 6-string basses. They'll also handle 7-string and 8-string guitars.

Stainless steel.

A review? All I can say about the understring radius gauges set is that these tools are an absolute must essential for anyone who will claim to be able to adjust the action of any acoustic or electric instruments.

What I needed

By

Verified Buyer

I needed a set of radius gauges to set up my basses. These are nicely made and came quick enough. A note for the uninitiated (me) the higher the number on the gauge, the flatter your fretboard is. Most of my stuff came in on the 9.5 - 10 gauge.

As soon as I got them, I trued up my Strat, my Tele and my 4-string fretless J bass. The action on every one immediately got better!

Must have/ Great Customer Service!!

This is a real review!!! Not that I question reviews here for validity.
These were great for verifying/checking a conical fingerboard with a 12-16" radius that I just leveled prior to a refret.
Originally I received a set that had some dimensional issues. Stewmac responded very proactively and promptly to get me replacements ASAP. The customer service Stewmac provides is top and you just don't find that many places anymore. Thank you Stewmac (Elijah)!!!!

I am learning to set up my bass guitars and this is a big help. Two gauges were damaged and crooked, I sent photos of the damage and they were replaced immediately.

Great tool, seem solid

Great tool, easy to use for a beginner like me. It was one of my first luthier tool, to get the right sanding block. They are pretty solid. I feel that they gonna be accurate a long time (if I store them well)
I bought the wide one. If you don't have wide neck, you better buy the narrow one. Wide one feel great for bass, but I think I'm gonna order narrow one for guitar. But both can do the job, it's just a question of preference, as they are long to pass under the strings.
