perfect for my needs

I bought this caul for a neck with a bad fret job. It held the neck in place well and it worked great as i used it on my drill press to set the frets, good product.

Acceptable product

Now remember, this is a caul: (woodworking) A strip or block of wood used to distribute or direct clamping force. Every neck is different, which means that this tool is made to be added onto or modified in some way. It is only responsible for distribution of clamping pressure and equalization of downward pressure from fretting and leveling work. Wood has not been sanded smooth, which is fine with me. Cork board is cut nicely, but is NOT glued onto the wood to my satisfaction. It is peeling on the edges. Overall I am satisfied with the product, although I think the price is on the steep side for the quality.

nice support for the price

I used this on my workbench with a Gibson SG. I put a towel under the body, laid the guitar so the nut was at the edge of my workbench and the peghead was not in the way. I put a few shims under the support to account for the angle of the set neck. In the future, I may glue the shims on. This system supported the neck well enough to hammer in frets. For the price, I could get a second one of these if I need to work on a stratocaster or telecaster type guitar.

A bargain!. A minimalist solution but can't fault its function or value.

Good product but needs modification

This is a great product with the exception that it doesn’t get the neck you’re working on up above the work surface enough. I added another piece of wood about 1/2 thick underneath as soon as I got it.

IT'S O.K.

This thing is just O.K. BUT with your guitar lying on a work station mat this caul is too short to support the neck in any way. I had to put some pot holders under this caul to raise it up so it could actually support the neck. Once I did that it did hold my guitar secure enough to saw a nut out of a nut slot on my guitar so it works but depending on what kind of guitar you have (Mine was a Strat) it may not support your guitars neck without...support! Second thought I would have probably gotten away with just the pot holders.

Dissapointed

Quality below what I have come accustomed to from stew mac. A bit more glue and clamping during production would go a long way.
