About This Item

Pinpoint those pesky high frets, and check the final height after you've redressed or replaced them, reach for the Fret Rocker!

Our 4-in-1 mini straightedge spans three frets and "rocks" to indicate uneven fret heights. Precision-machined for accuracy to .0015" per foot, the 4", 3", 2" and 1-5/16" edges make it versatile for any fretted instrument, from basses to guitars to mandolins.

The Fret Rocker is made of stainless steel with a durable finish for professional use. It's an indispensable diagnostic tool, before and after partial refretting and recrowning jobs. It lets you do more accurate fret work for better playability.

Fret rocker rocks!

Unlike other cheap imitations, the original is dead straight on all angles. I checked them with a level.
My other cheaper "fret rockers" aren't perfectly straight and they aren't nearly as thick as the Stew Mack one. I don't know if the thickness makes a difference but it certainly feels much better in the hand and it's overall quality. I really love your tools and from now on I'm only gonna buy your luthier products. Buy once cry once. The prices on some products are quite high but you get what you pay for. Have a good one Mr. Mack!

A must have for fret work!

It is simple to use. I had a fret buzz on the 12th fret position. When checked with the rocker I could see the 13th fret was a hair high. I used the fret erasers 400 thru 2000 and went at it. I had quite a few frets that had scratches that I could feel and see when I dragged my fingernail across the frets.
The fret rocker takes the guess work out of which fret is higher and obviously you do it when the strings are on the guitar and tuned to pitch. Used on an Ibanez AS93 demo sold as new.

Works like a charm

Just built a new guitar (one of those 200 dollar kits that solo sells, rather nice actually) and one of the frets was buzzing, this helped me find it immediately.

Invaluable

I use this when installing frets on a new build, as well as finding high frets on an older guitar. I hammer in the first 3 frets and check with the fret rocker. If it rocks, I hammer down the middle fret until it doesn't rock anymore. Hammer in fret #4 and check again on frets 2,3,4 , etc, all the way down the neck. With a properly prepped fingerboard, I usually only have to polish the frets. Fret levelling is not needed, along with all the re-crowning, filing etc.
I have never seen this in any trade secrets before, however Imay have just missed it.
I did call Stewmac to suggest it as a trade secret, but the person I talked to was not interested.
Personally, I think it is great technique. Saves time and fret height lost in levelling. If you don't have one, you should!!!
