Fret/Fingerboard Levelers

About This Item

Precision-ground for flatness.
Fast, accurate leveling tools for the pro shop.

Each heavyweight rectangular 1" x 2" steel tube is precision-ground for flatness on the narrow sides. Attach abrasive to quickly level frets or level an unfretted fingerboard. The tool's edges are smooth to prevent gouging.

Available in three lengths, to level any fingerboard.

Roger Sadowsky, ace builder and repairman, wrote us to say:
"I have been leveling fingerboards and frets for 30 years and thought I was pretty set in my ways. However, I have recently tried the 16" steel levelers (#4578) and man, talk about teaching an old dog new tricks! My fingerboards have never been better, and they work much better than files for leveling frets. Thank you again, StewMac!!!"

Cut and stick!
3M Stikit Gold Paper Self-adhesive Abrasives are the right width for our leveling and radius sanding tools. Attach 80 through 220-grits for radiusing and leveling the fingerboard, and 220 through 400-grits for leveling the frets.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

8" Fret Leveler

Didn't realize that the beveled edges on both ends shortens the sanding area by 1/2 ". Other than that, the leveler was easy to use and very effective.

Great fret leveing tool

Couldn't be happier with this. It is milled perfectly, nice rounded edges, the weight makes it stable without needing downward pressure. I made a little wood jig to hold the neck flat, and I am glad I bought the 24" beam to cover all the frets. It really nice!

Heavy duty

this thing is heavy! It gonna last forever. Although I prefer radius sanding block for working on my neck, this tool have his place in my setup, for a lot of task that require something REALLY flat, for luthier job or building tool, sanding jobs, building jig or anything else...

The beveled ends to the amazing straightness and surprising weight. Great tool, I wish I would have bought one much sooner. The hook hole on the side was a great surprise. It’s nice to be able to hang it up on the wall and out of the way of my bench really quick. Great job guys.

My 20 year old Les Paul Special was in a need of a fret job. Thanks to stewmac and a bunch of youtube vids I was brave enough to try it myself - on a practice guitar first!

I taped some 320 to one side of this level and used it on the straightened fret board. The length covered all but 1 or 2 frets. I just had to push the level forward and back and let gravity do the rest. I was surprised at how easy it was and how excellent the results were. I had no fear of doing my gibson next and it also came out great - better than the factory finish of 20 years ago if you can believe that.

This was an expensive tool, but it's a quality tool and now I can level any guitar I need to in my collection for the rest of my life. Excellent purchase.
