Foam Polishing Pads

About This Item

High gloss finishes with your hand drill!
Shaped pads are great for guitar body contours. No swirl marks!

Your finishes can have a professional look when you use these fiber-free foam buffing pads. They're perfect for applying polishing compounds with your power buffer or variable-speed hand drill.

Foam polishing pads are perfect for applying polishing compounds, like our ColorTone Polishing Compounds. The gentle polishing action helps avoid swirl marks, fine scratches and burn-through, leaving a beautiful mirror-gloss surface.

For the small shop or casual builder, this is a great way to get factory-quality finishes without tedious hand polishing or expensive buffing equipment. Larger well-equipped shops find foam pads handy for getting into tight areas for fast spot refinishing, too. Each pad has a 1/4" arbor—you can use it in a drill press or variable-speed hand drill.

"Hourglass and cone-shaped pads are great for getting into guitar cutaways and hard-to-reach contours. I find a use for them all!"
—Erick Coleman, guitar repairman and StewMac tech advisor

Important: A separate pad should be used for each grade of polishing compound, to avoid adding scratches to the finish. Apply the compounds in sequence, from coarse to fine grades.

Colors may vary.

Polishing pads

Ordered these pads for polishing a guitar I was building that was going to be painted under clear coat. These pads worked pretty well, but another system I have was better and I finished the guitar with that polisher. I guess if you don't have another polisher, these may be better than nothing.

I was putting a finish on a bare Telecaster body and these made all the difference in the final finish quality.

nice compact solution

I bought 2 for different compounds and they work pretty good. Less space than a buffing wheel and more flexibility being able to put it in a drill press or hand drill. not sure how they hold up though before the foam breaks down. Time will tell.

high-quality, time-saving buffing pads

Purchased several (for an electric piano restoration) with different profiles. On initial inspection, each individual pad is physically larger and of a higher quality build than one would expect from the online description. An unexpected and happy surprise...

Although they seem a bit pricey when you're looking at the 'checkout' button, don't hesitate--they're real time savers when you're doing large--or multiple smaller--projects. Along with the cleaning/polishing compounds, I was able to remove 40 years of cigarette smoke and bar stains from the keybed of an old Fender Rhodes.

Would definitely (and probably will) purchase again!

These polishing pads perform excellently and, above all, remain completely stable while in use. A big help to say the least!

Foam Polishing Pads

These pads work well in my drill press. I'll continue to use them until I can replace the buffing arbor I once had. One note of caution......The plastic wheel the foam is glued to, will mar your finish...be careful when using the side of the foam pad.

I bought 4 3" pads; one for each bottle (Coarse, Medium, Fine and Swirl Remove) from Stew Mac.. They held up very well...no complaints. I was able to get a glass-like result with minimal effort. I started with medium and finished with the swirl remover. Well worth the cost.
