About This Item

For controllable, consistent pickup winding. Focus on your winding pattern without worrying about the coil tension.

When you're hand-winding pickups, controlling the coil wire is critical for getting repeatable results. This simple, lightweight solution from Mojotone maintains constant tension from start to finish.

Feed the wire through the Tensioner's felt pads. Tighten to your desired grip and go. Your winding will no longer vary from loose and tight. Great for production work.

I imagined that hand-winding pickups could be a nightmare, and decided that investing in a quality tensioner like this would help me.

I couldn't have been more right. My attempts at hand winding resulted in repeatedly broken wire and inconsistent tension. The wraps were way too loose and every time I broke the wire I'd have to start all over again. Very frustrating.

With this tool, the problem disappeared immediately. When I got my first coil wound without any breaks and being able to focus on the winding pattern, I was overjoyed.

Just make sure not to angle it too steeply against your traverse limiter or the wire can break. As long as you just move this tool side to side, as intended, it's fine. An absolute pleasure to use. I've considered marking the knob you turn to tighten it, to mark certain tensions. The neck pickup I wound using this came out so good, I'd love to replicate it, and I think having an exact measurement of the tension you use could go a very long way in replication. Just a thought.

Anyway, if you're getting into winding pickups, don't even think twice. Just buy it. It's that good. Worth every penny.
