Micro-Mesh Finishing Set

About This Item

Cushioned for a scratch-free mirror finish. Micro-Mesh® features tiny abrasive crystals on resilient cloth-backed latex.

These gentle "cushioned" particles generate less heat and friction than ordinary finishing papers, don't load up as quickly, and last up to 15 times longer. Use Micro-Mesh with soapy water to produce a scratch-free mirror shine on finishes and pickguards.

The set includes:
18 Micro-Mesh abrasive sheets (two 3" x 6" pieces of each grit):
1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000 and 12000-grit
Foam sanding block
Instructions

Micro-Mesh was developed for polishing jet windshields to maintain their optical clarity. Imagine how your instrument will look! Great for repairing scratches and overspray. Use them for polishing frets, too.

Expensive but worth the cost

Unlike Jack Straw (see below), I’m not on my first set. It eventually stops cutting as well as it once did, and when it does, I replace it. Ive used perhaps Four sets in ten years. I’m not a pro, so I don’t use it daily, but I’ve used it to restore horrible guitar and mandolin finishes on 1920s instruments to near new without refinishing, just by carefully removing the oxidized top layer of old varnish or lacquer. I use it on most fretboards, as I like a glossy and buttery smooth fretboard, and it’s easy to make frets gleam in a few minutes. It’s great for restoring a finish after fixing scratches. Very nice indeed on pickguards. With an ebony fingerrest, I can easily bring it to where it looks like it has finish on it when it doesn’t.

Incredibly Long Lasting And Versatile

I've been a full time luthier for over 25 years and a Micro-Mesh kit was one of the first specialty "tools" I purchased. I'm STILL using the original kit!!!

i use the 2400 and finer grades for wet sanding KTM-9 finishes on my Jack Straw flat tops before hitting the buffer. Fabulous results from an amazing product. I'd buy more but my first kit is still doing the job after all these years.

Great product, but I don't need the whole set

This stuff is great, but I use it primarily in the finer grits, for polishing frets. I don't like having to buy a whole set just to get more sheets of 3200-6000.

Please make it possible to buy individual sheets, or perhaps divide the set into 'coarse' and 'fine' halves.

Thank you.

I find this product to be as advertised.

When used correctly, it makes quick work of removing scratches, helping to get to the polishing sooner.

There is really nothing else like Micro-Mesh, especially for sanding and polishing frets!

Awesome stuff

I originally found out about Micro-Mesh in connection with work on my fountain pen nibs. I bought a set of pads (4,000, 6,000, 8,000, and 12,000) to shape a polish the nibs into an ultra-smooth jeweler's finish. Then recently I bought a Stratocaster whose frets were...well, let's just say that "factory finish" is not a good thing. I'm used to the frets on my '63 L-Strat, which are smooth as greased glass. So, I figured that if Micro-Mesh works on iridium pen nibs, it ought to to a great job on fret wire. It does. I applied all four grades successively, from 4,000 up to 12,000, and now the frets are buttery smooth. But wait! Do you have pick scratches on your finish? Micro-Mesh will buff those puppies outta there and restore the finish to brand new. (Use caution: The finer the scratches, the finer the grit you should use.) Micro-Mesh is great stuff!

I used these in conjunction with the polishing papers for a final rubbing of a french polish project I was working on, and they delivered in spades. Love them!

Not bad....

Cuts really fast but you have to be really careful with it or else you'll scratch up your finish. I find the polishing cloth a little easier to manage. For flat surfaces make sure you use the included foam block so that it'll cut consistently

Impressive Results

I'm quite surprised at how well these abrasives work. I'm able to get an almost perfect finish just using the full suite of grits. Scratch-free is pretty difficult, though. Any minor debris on your surface or in your lubricant will show as scratches when you get to the highest grits. So you have to be extremely careful not to have any contamination. Buffing should take care of them, though. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the price.
