Fretting Hammer

About This Item

Our well-balanced dual-face hammer has become a standard tool for fretwork.

The aluminum head is threaded for two replaceable striking surfaces: a low-dent plastic flat face with smooth edges, and a brass convex face that's radiused for installing frets. Sturdy hardwood handle.

Head striking surface diameter 7/8" (22.23mm)
Overall length of the head 2-3/4" (69.85mm)
Handle length 9-1/2" (241.30mm)

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Great balance, perfect for hammering frets

I really love this hammer already, and I have only been using it for about a week. It's the perfect size and weight. I do think it's probably overpriced, but I understand it's a small market to sell supplies to and a company has got to make a profit on specialized products. I appreciate all the great tools, and amazing customer service from Stew Mac!

I always thought a hammer is a hammer. The weight and feel really does make a difference. I've done three fret boards and used it to start the ends. No dented frets. Nice tool.

All I use for seating frets is the plastic end and it does so with out a ding or mark.
