StewMac Body Board

About This Item

Instantly double your workspace
We've improved the Body Board to be the most functional spot in your entire shop.

Customers have loved our Body Board for years—there's never been an easier solution to make the most of your valuable shop space. From your feedback we've made improvements to create the ultimate shop helper.

Lift the guitar up and away from benchtop clutter
Don't let a tool-filled bench scratch the instrument you're working on! The Body Board and our Guitar Repair Vise will change how you work whether your shop is big or small.

Work from any angle
With the guitar firmly supported, you can now work on it from all sides. Not only that, you can hold the guitar in any position: topside-up, sideways, or upside-down, whatever works to get the job done. The felt padded, no-scratch riser supports the body and moves horizontally and vertically to hold anything from a ukulele to a long-scale bass.

Instant access to all your tools
The 23 holes hold all of the screwdrivers, files, nut drivers, string winders and other tools you use on every job.

More than just tool holders, two parts trays safely hold screws, tuners, saddles, knobs, electronics—all the little things that like to disappear while you work. Now your bench is free to hold glues, stains, and big tools a safe distance away from your work.

"I'm able to reach all sides of the body better when it's on the board. For an awesome free standing rig, I add it to the ShopStand. That gives me 360-degrees of access to my work."—Erick Coleman, guitar repairman and StewMac tech advisor

The most compact workstation ever
Now you can turn a tiny patch of floor space into the hub of your workshop. With the StewMacGuitar Workstation any garage, spare room, or empty corner can have a stable, professional, and secure workbench.

The StewMac Guitar Workstation includes: StewMac Body Board, Guitar Repair Vise, Erlewine ShopStand, and the Guitar Vise Tool Table.

With the Guitar Repair Vise and Body Board mounted to the ShopStand you've got a versatile, height adjustable workstation that rotates to any angle. Once you install the Guitar Vise Tool Table you're ready to do serious work: it's a rock solid compact bench exactly where you need it.

Body Board dimensions: 30-3/4" x 6" x 1" (781mm x 152mm x 25mm)
Felt padded riser adjusts from 2-1/2" to 5-1/2" (63mm to 139mm)
Made of high quality Baltic Birch plywood with durable hardware.

This thing kills with the shop vise!

I was able to resist the predecessor to this body board, but couldn't resist when you added the holes and routed trays. I recently relocated my electronics and guitar benches to a smaller space. The electronics stuff often gets in the way when I need to work on an instrument. This body board plus my Stew Mac vise allowed an unused corner of the bench to become a new workstation. The adjustable support and the ability to swing the vise/body board into any position is brilliant. Parts and tool storage on the body board are awesome. Two improvement suggestions: The board should have been sanded and sealed, and the felt pad for the adjustable support should come with double sided adhesive strips or a contact adhesive recommendation.

So nice.

I've been working on guitars professionally for well over 20 years. In my own shop full time for 10. I already had the repair vice anyway and used a small pad on a dowel to raise work off my bench, but the ability to spin my work around from side to side.... well I'm really amazed at how nice and convenient that simple feature is. My benches are accessible and pretty well thought out but this thing adds a whole new level of ease and convenience to my work just mounted to my bench. I have a shop stand that I use for my neck jig and if I did not already have a bench. I could almost get by without one with this combination. The second job I used it for was to make and install a new nut, something I've done hundreds of times. I was honestly amazed at how much more enjoyable the work was with the added accessibility and ease this gizmo provided. And sure, I could have made one, but at my very reasonable shop rate I certainly could not have made it any less expensively. I'm not one to fawn over tools. They are tools. Good ones are good. This gizmo is really great.

Original StewMac Body Board Review

By

This is a very good idea. I purchased this Original StewMac Body Board when its price was dramatically reduced (due to it being replaced by an updated model). At the reduced price, it is a really good deal. I am pleased with the purchase; however, it's overall fit an finish is a bit rough, although nothing a few minutes with some sandpaper can't eliminate. I think that the protective pad provided is not worthwhile; still, it is a nice thought.

Again, this is good buy at the closeout price - I'm thinking about purchasing a second one.

Very Functional

I could not really find any fault other than adding a cross board at the body rest section. This would allow for an easy way to clamp a light when working in the bridge and body area.

Simple Design but Worth Every Penny

OK, I could have built this myself... even taken apart some clamps to make the sliding rest. But, when would I get around to it and how much would it cost? StewMac makes luthier tools a no-brainer and every one works!

I was disappointed by the chipout and the sanding..... as a woodworker I’m particular about the little things.

This body board frees up my workbench top while I'm working on a guitar or bass and tucks out of the way when I'm done. I'm very pleased with it.
