Very good book. if you can read schematics it is easy to follow the wiring of the electronics on a guitar.

great book but, the caps in diagrams on the last page contradict what the previous diagrams showed. .022 cap for a single coil, ,047 for a humbucker. typo?

Surprising Variety

This book is my go-to reference for repairing wiring on electric instruments that come into the shop. The most common F & G-style diagrams are on the back cover, but there is a LOT more to find inside - including some rather obscure arrangements that can be useful for oddball instruments. Highly recommended for people who work on a wide variety of electric instruments.

Great Source

I build and repair instruments, this is a great source to check wiring to insure no one has 'modified' it to the extent it is not repairable.

A must-have reference!

This book is a must-own for anyone who works on electric guitars with any level of regularity.

It is, of course, not exhaustive; If it were, it would be ten times the size. One of the best aspects of the book is that it outlines the wiring of individual components in different circumstances (i.e. 3-position blade switch as a pickup toggle, series/split/parallel miniswitches, etc); Once that is internalized, one rarely needs diagrams to wire up a guitar unless it contains exotic circuitry or components; You simply decide what control scheme is suitable for a guitar, prep each component, and connect them together like electrical Lego blocks and you're done. In addition to this aspect of the book, it contains very useful circuits that are not quite so intuitive, many of which fall in the awkward space of "famous enough to encounter in your work, but not famous enough for wiring diagrams to be available freely online."

If you're a professional tech, especially a "fresh-faced" one, but haven't yet received an electrical engineering degree, at some point in your career this book will be a godsend.

Clean and well laid out.

I like the book because it is simple to read for someone who is unfamiliar with blue prints. As a Electrical Engineer I didn't need this book as much as needing it for those who can't read a print. The best part is I can Xerox it and give it to one of my techs to use to check wiring on a particular guitar without the need to explain things. It is the K.I.S.S. principle in action (Keep it simple stupid). So it gets a 4 star from me, because it is simple and saves time and long explanations.

Excellent service

As usual, excellent service from Stew-Mac. Book does not meet expectations because I thought it would include also special wiring. But useful if you want to make repairs.
