Waverly Ukulele Friction Pegs

About This Item

"The smoothest and most consistent-working non-geared ukulele tuning pegs I've ever seen, new or old." —Matt Umanov, Umanov Guitars, NYC

In the early 1900s the ukulele was king. Waverly uke pegs bring back a simple but innovative non-geared design that tuned many fine instruments: the knob screw adjusts the tension, and an internal coil spring provides smoothness and slip-resistance. Unsurpassed by standard friction tuners, they combine precision-machined quality with an authentic vintage look. Simply the finest traditional friction pegs you can install on your ukulele.

Choice of beautifully polished knobs: curly koa, solid ebony or grained ivoroid.

Nickel-plated brass, set of 4.

Waverly Ukulele Friction Pegs offer modern precision with vintage style, ideal for instrument restoration. Waverly tuners will work properly in pegholes with diameters between 7/32" and 1/4" (5.56mm to 6.35mm).

For new builds, we recommend drilling a 3/16" (5mm) peghole diameter.

For appearance and proper function, pegholes should be chamfered for the top washer and the rear housing. We have just the right countersink bit for cutting this chamfer.

Peghead thickness can vary from 5/16" to 9/16" (7.94mm to 14.29mm).

Almost perfect

These are great tuning pegs. I ordered two sets because I was replacing a worn set on an old Martin Taropatch. I ordered the ebony knobs. All went smoothly except one of the knobs was stuck tight on the shaft....from the factory. I had a dickens of a time getting it off without scratching it.
They look wonderful and made the instrument.....which is very hard to tune anyway, play like new.
I recommend also getting the chamfer tool.

Waverly friction pegs

I bought two sets, one for a soprano and one for a restoration of a baritone ukulele I picked up for $5. They are nice looking but the small size of the buttons makes them very hard to turn. If the buttons were a bid wider and gave a little bit more leverage, they would probably get 5 stars with me. They do work and I am keeping them on those two ukes, and perhaps I am asking too much from a friction tuner, but I am inclined to try the Grover Delux friction tuners next.

I think these will be great

I bought 2 sets for my pre-war Martin 2M and my vintage Vita-Uke. I ran into a problem with the countersink for it (see my review about that) while trying to install a set on the Martin. Until I can make the repair caused by the countersink, I won't be able fully judge, but the other three of the set I installed seem to be working as I had hoped, and they look really great.

Beautiful tuners...

However, I couldn't find any info, when ordering, regarding what they will - or won't - fit. I took a risk - and failed. Still, while they don't fit the 40s Martin Tenor I bought them for, they're so classy, I'll be keeping them to use on a smaller uke in future.

A good quality tuner that is light weight, beautiful and has the traditional look of a straight peg. I used the tapered install tool and they hold tight as you want the to.

Waverly Ukulele Friction Pegs for thicker than average Baritone headstock

By

Verified Buyer

The Waverly friction pegs fit my Giannini baritone ukulele while other brands that I looked at didn't have the potential "reach" required for my 9/16" thick headstock - it is notable that a countersink modification to the headstock was necessary but all is well with these tuners now

Updating a 60 year old uke.

I am rebuilding the ukelele that I started playing when I was five years old. These tuners are a perfect fit. Waverley comes through again. Excellent.

Must, must, must, drill correctly

Nice but pricy! The pegs are tiny and would probably work better on an 8 string where space for larger tuners would be an issue. I wanted better ones for my soprano but did not take precautions on the countersink drilling without a drill press. The tuners did not sit square and it was impossible to turn the pegs to tune. Koa pegs got indented and loose from the force of turning. Cleaned and resurfaced the old ones and put them back on which was all it needed.
