3/8" Conversion Tuner Bushing

About This Item

Round and hex shape bushings for adapting 1/4" string posts to fit larger pegholes. Set of 6.

Conversion bushing example
Adapts 1/4" string post to fit larger pegholes.
Our special tapered knurled press-fit brass bushings lets you install Waverly or other tuning machines with 1/4"-diameter string posts into 3/8" or 10mm pegholes (Gotoh/Grover/Schaller) with no redrilling.

Note: these conversions bushings will not work on instruments with 10.5mm pegholes. Measure the tuner hole diameter prior to ordering.

For a perfect fit, we recommend the #2065 Peghead Bushing Reamer (.393" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore.

Homemade bushing puller to protect the peghead

Dan Erlewine needs to pull the tuner grommets/bushings from the peghead of this old Gibson. The lacquer is already damaged, and pulling the bushings can yank finish off too. Dan rigs a jig that holds the finish down while the bushing comes up.

Pretty much says it all. If your headstock is bored for large tuners you need these.

A little bit large for string post

I needed this larger bushing for use on Grover 18:1 statite tuners. The bushing fit the headstock hole great, but the hole for the string post was a hair large which under tension pulls on the string post a bit.

Perfect fit!

I wanted the 50's vibe of the Gotoh vintage oval tuners for my "newer" Fender USA Standard Strat and Tele. These 3/8" conversion bushings pressed right into place with no reaming! Both guitars now have that vintage look that I was after.

worked great on my D35 Martin

By

I purchased a set of Waverly open gear tuners for my old D35 Martin. I thought I was going to need to return them because the bushing that came with them were to small for the holes in the D35. I went back to the Stewmac website and found these bushing. They worked great for the Waverly tuners. I had to ever so slightly ream the tuner holes and these pressed right in. Glad I found them!

i measured carefully and they are 3/8 but these still slipped out, then i installed the new Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite (97-18 Series) 3+3 Tuners and then installed the bushings after. since the tuners stems were slightly off center the pressure kept the bushings in place. not sure this is the correct procedure but it worked perfectly. these with the grovers looks fantastic.
