Grover 18:1 Sta-Tite Slotted Peghead Guitar Machines

About This Item

Grover Sta-Tite™ tuners are a modern version of a vintage design. For 3-left/3-right slotted pegheads. For steel-string guitars.

Each tuner features 18:1 gear ratio for fine tuning, a cast baseplate, vintage style scalloped knobs, and nylon worm bearings and tension screw for smooth operation.

Set of 6 (3-left/3-right) with mounting screws. String posts are 1/4" (6.32mm) diameter.

Also available for solid pegheads.

Installation Tips

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1711 Depth-stop Drill Bit (No.50 bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

These are quality tuners that look great. If you've read the review that says that they have too much play: You are not supposed to smack them with a mallet before installing.

Washburn Parlor Guitar

I used these Grover sta-title slotted tuners to replace the classical plastic tuners they put on my vintage style Washburn parlor guitar. With Larry Anderson's help from StewMac I plugged the 10mm holes with 3/8" conversion bushings. I used 12 bushings , three on each side in the middle and six on the inner holes facing the middle. I secured bushings with a little title bond glue since they were a little loose. The screw holes to secure the Grovers were exactly the same so I didn't have to drill new holes. Worked like a charm. Tuners look great and work perfect. With Martin SP silk and phosphor strings 11-52 gauge it plays and sounds great. Thanks for your help. I thought I would never be able to convert those classical tuners. And those Grovers are reasonably priced. I didn't want to spend more for the tuners than I paid for the guitar.

A Better Head

When I ordered my new Grovers I was amazed at how fast they came. And to Australia!

Of course they work much, much better than the cheap Chinese ones. Grover is always a grade A product.

I've been sprucing up a Martinez parlour (that is is the correct spelling thank you) guitar. Pretty much anywhere the string touches is important to the sound and tuning accuracy. I also replaced the plastic bridge pins with ebony and made the tuning almost completely stable. Now the Sta-Tite heads have increased stability and sustain as well as making tuning much easier.

The packaging on the Grovers was ridiculous overkill. That should change.

If you've got a cheap acoustic that you want to get more out of then tuners, end pins, bridge and saddle all need looking at. Well worth the effort.

I gave four stars because I don't do five; unless I'm drunk.
