Sloane Classical Guitar Machines with Stippled Bronze Baseplates

About This Item

The choice of renowned luthiers!
Beautiful Sloane classical tuners are first choice for many fine concert guitars.

Superior quality components, innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship combine for tuning performance that's second to none. Conceived by pioneering luthier Irving Sloane—crafted and refined by Waverly.

Each set includes a pair of 3-left/3-right tuning machines with mounting screws.

New level of smooth: precision ball bearings on each string roller take tuning to an even higher level of smoothness, with no binding.

Improved: powder-coated aluminum rollers with brass inner shafts. No cracking, no premature wear.

    Superior design
  • Patented bushings eliminate looseness in the worm gear, for impressively precise tuning and smooth feel.
  • Baseplates and support posts are one-piece cast bronze, more stable than common riveted assemblies.
  • NEW precision ball bearings on each string roller prevent binding—a new level of smooth, effortless tuning for the performing artist.
  • Handsome white powder-coated aluminum string rollers have brass inner shafts and brass-lined string mounting holes. No cracking, no premature wear.
    Long-life gears
  • Bronze alloy 16:1 crown gears are more durable than the brass gears used in other tuners.
  • Stainless steel worms and screws assure longer life with less wear.
    Beauty to enhance fine instruments
  • Polished bronze baseplates attain a handsome antique patina.
  • Choose from a selection of beautiful polished knobs.

Installation Tips

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1713 Depth-stop Drill Bit (No.44 bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Smooth as silk, tight as..........

By

Verified Buyer

These are the best tuners I've experienced.
The bearings on the shaft ends provide absolutely NO BINDING.
The smoothness and totally linear tightening/loosening have to be experienced to believe.
It's like going from a normal car to an exotic sports car.
I build classical guitars and these will be the only tuners for me going forward.

Great tuners and great service by StewMac.

the best

Ive installed 2 sets of these tuners on 2 different guitars I've owned over a 10 year stretch. One guitar was an early 60's Gibson C2, one is a Mexican "Luthier built" flamenco and soon I will put a set of these on a Kremona "Romida" guitar I just bought (it sounds fantastic)..In each case the guitar was/is a solid basically well made instrument - but not a 30,000 dollar handmade virtuoso thing - and in each case was (or will be im sure) improved in all ways by the Sloan tuners. If I was going to pay someone 30 G's to build me a guitar, I think I would expect that luthier to carve the tuners specially for that instrument ...On any guitar here on Earth , the kind one might buy online, or at a music store, I can't imagine any tuners working, feeling, sounding or looking better than these..Im not going to pay over $1000.00 per set for worm gear ball bearing tuners, just so I can say they were "hand made" in Germany, or Italy... I mean, was the ball bearing "hand made" ? Does he smelt his own brass? Give me a break.

beautiful en technical superior tuners

By

I already have this tuners on my (self-build) flamencoguitar, so i also want these on my new classical guitar, which i am building. These tuners are technically superior, tuning is easy and smooth (also backwards!) and I like the stippled bronze baseplates very much.
You can buy more expensive, but you can't buy better tuners .....

New Tuners for an Old Classic

By

Verified Buyer

My 1980 Ramirez 1A has seen a great deal of playing over the years, and the tuners became hard to turn and a bit dicey. It's such a good guitar that I thought it deserved the best, so I bought Sloane tuners for it. Boy, am I glad I did. They turn smooth as glass, look terrific, and will serve me for the rest of my life! You have to see them close up to appreciate what fine little machines they are. A bit pricey, yes, but no one was ever sorry for buying the best, and they are... THE BEST!

I'm not a professional. I've only had experience with 4 brands of Tuning Machines. Waverly, Gotoh,Martin, and Irving Sloane. There went on a Martin 0028C Classical Nylon Guitar. Compared to the GOTOH 35G510S model, it is just not comparable. The GOTOHs have no warranty, will not sell you parts, and they strip if you blink hard at them. I should have bought the Sloanes in the first place. Don't make the same mistake I did. Get the very best FIRST. If you look at the Gotohs, even their high end versions (200.00 plus) have the worm screw with a nut on it that if you tighten it the least bit, it strips and the worm gear falls out. Japan will not sell you the worm gear. only the washers!!!!!!!! The waverly's worked great for 30 years but they were just worn out and became loose. The Martins on my steel string Martin are only 10 years old and they work great. Hopefully, the above helps. I can't say enough about the Sloanes. I can't say enough bad things about the Gotohs either. They are poorly engineered. The sloanes have bearings on both ends of the roller so I think that is why they are silent tuners.

Sloane Classical Guitar Tuning Pegs

By

Verified Buyer

I was disappointed after receiving the Sloane Tuning Pegs for my Yamaha NCX2000R. I found that they were not a good value when compared to the Gotoh premium classical guitar tuning pegs. I've purchased a number of the Gotoh sets and I consider the Gotoh to be a much better value.

excellent tuners

First time I've used the new ones with the bearings - a huge improvement! For me they'd be almost perfect if (a) the white barrels were a little bit creamy and (b) the wooden buttons (in my case ebony) were supplied unfinished - I prefer to oil mine...

Good when new but not very long lasting

By

I have used the Sloane tuners for many years and being in the business for 30 years I can honestly say that I have a long time perspective. During the years I have used these tuners too many have caused troubles by having lose buttons or malfunctioning gears. Although Stewmac has always been first class in customer service I have never had any problems replacing the bad tuner but living in Europe this procedure of sending tuners back and forth has at last got me to stop using the Sloane Classical Guitar Machines.

Simply the BEST!

I purchased these Sloane Tuners for my Godin Multiac ACS Nylon Acoustic-Electric Guitar and what a difference!! this guitar stays in tune now, the tuners are a direct fit took all of about twenty minutes to install ! not sure what tuners Godin put on from the factory but they just did not measure up to my standards. The Sloanes were just what i was looking for, the action is very precise & smooth & they look incredible on my Godin
