Five-Star 5th String Banjo Peg

About This Item

Our popular right-angle peg with string post, featuring 14:1 gear ratio for smooth, precise tuning.

The 5-Star 5th string peg is a high quality traditional worm-gear design. The pearlescent plastic knob matches our Five-Star Banjo Tuning Pegs.

This tuner requires a tapered peghole in the banjo neck (see our 5th Peg Reamer). Splines and a small “fin” hold the peg firmly and prevent rotation in the neck. Glue is not necessary in a correctly tapered hole.

Setting up a banjo's 5th string: nut, capos and peg

Todd Sams shows how he sets up a banjo 5th string using railroad spikes, a block of wood, and a camless clamp.

Smooth action, good fit . I used a small block of wood with a hole drilled in it to slide over the shaft and tap lightly to seat

A client of mine had a nice FiveString Banjo which he could not get uovstay in tune because the fifth string tuner peg kept creeping out of time, The StewMac replacement fitted with a little mod work and has improved the instrument, it’s as good if not better than new. Thanks SM

I had a really bad friction tuner on my 5th string for the longest time. It was getting to the point where it was unusable. Finally got around to replacing it and I found that this one did the trick, and I don't have to worry about really delicate movements setting everything out of tune anymore. Good price, nothing fancy, but reliable.

Five Stars for 5-Star!

This is my go to brand of tuners. I dozens per year. Plating and mechanisms are very good along with a nice selection of buttons. Be sure you do not pound directly in the button or the post when installing or you will break/jam the tuner. Get yourself a thread spool or a block of wood with a hole and put it over the post for protection. -Companion Banjos

This was for my Great-grandfather's banjo. It made a huge difference in the look and functionality. Thanks!
