About This Item

Money-saving set of 5. We offer this complete set of 5 tuners as a low-cost alternative for banjos with simple peghead shapes.

The set includes four open-gear guitar-style tuners, plus bushings to adapt the tuners for 3/8"-diameter pegholes.

These tuners have 14:1 ratio and include mounting screws. The non-geared friction 5th string peg has a tension screw. All tuners have pearloid plastic knobs.

(Note: Our replacement knobs will not fit these tuners.)

Refit for OEM junk tuning machines

By

Verified Buyer

Picked up a budget travel Dirty 30's tenor banjo from Radio King and as par for the course the OEM machines were junk. I did a retro-fit on an old Vega Rambler with these once so I picked up another set as I was very pleased with the previous install.

These machines are a great replacement for any PRC OEM "budget" banjo which usually incorporate guitar style tuners.

I did have to plug the holes from the OEM stuff and refinish the back of the headstock as the manufacturing process of installing the stock machines used a drill but didn't predrill... so lifting the old machines out brought up some torn wood around the OEM install holes. I was miffed. Anyway, sanded the back of the headstock pegged the holes and stained the wood to match and clear coated to protect and... whew! Anyway these Stew Mac's work great, as I already knew from the previous project and the new Tenor is already getting a road worn look to it because I'm probably the equivalent of a framing carpenter when it comes to working on stuff like this! But that's okay because road worn is all the rage... right?

decent tuners at an excellent price

First: These tuners are an exact "drop in" replacement set for a Gold Tone CC-100 open back banjo.

Match the originals and perform well and super easy to replace. My wife's banjo tuners were old and completely shot. Not the best tuners in the world, but function very well and I don't think they can be beat for the price. Thanks Stew-Mac!

I use these on my mt. banjos they look great and stay in tune only problem is that some times on the 5th peg to get it from backing off win you tightin it up it crushes the plastic washer no big deal so far but it could use a stronger washer

Bought the kids a used "starter" banjo. These aligned perfectly into the old mounting holes to make the instrument look new again and work like a charm.

Great tuners/bad plastic bushings.

I have to say for economy tuners these work excellent and do a good job of holding the instrument in tune, the only issue i have is the plastic bushings they come with as i bought a set for the same price last year and they came with nickel plated cast ones, great tuners but i wouldn't use the plastic bushings.
