About This Item

Keep track of repair jobs in your shop with these handy, durable tags. A glance tells what's in each case, what's needed and when it's due.

If you're still using a piece of masking tape to mark guitar cases, take a look at these Repair Tags developed by Todd Sams, the guitarmaker who heads our production shop. Todd created these for his own use, but they were too handy not to share with our customers.

The tags have wire twist ties through reinforced holes, and spaces to write this info about each customer's guitar:

Name, Phone, Email
Guitar, Serial #
Estimated Completion Date, Estimated Cost

Pack of 50.

Dan Erlewine created two useful forms to plan and estimate the work that comes into his shop, it's also helpful for showing your customer the work you plan to do or did on their instrument.

Was looking for an inexpensive but nice looking repair tag. These fit the bill perfectly.

I refused to order these for a while; $13 for 50 paper tags seemed like a lot. I wanted to be a bit more organized, but I felt I was doing a decent enough job at it that I wasn't sure these would help. After thinking on it a few weeks and running the numbers (it only ends up being about 25 cents a tag) it seemed reasonable to give these a shot and see if they helped me with my organization. I really like them. They are strong, substantial, and perfectly-sized. I can write all the customer info on the tag, wrap it around the case handle, write notes/part order info on the reverse for myself (I'm thinking of having a custom stamp made to stamp my info on the back when it's ready for the customer), and I have all the information I need in one handy place. I like to keep photos on my phone of all "active" tags after I fill them out so that I have access to all the pertinent information on the instrument at any given moment.

If you do contract work, your clients will probably love these! I do some work through local music schools, and the front desk staff seem to appreciate having everything laid out so clearly and in one place. In addition, it lends a nice air of old-school professionalism.
