Adjustable Archtop Mandolin Bridge

About This Item

This fine quality polished ebony bridge has been popular with mandolin makers and repair shops for many years.

The shape of the compensated top allows a bit of filing for custom intonation adjustments, and the thumbwheels are sized for easier height adjustment. Ready for slotting in your shop to suit your string spacing requirements.

For optimum volume, tone and stability, the arched base should be sanded to match the curvature of your mandolin top. Our Archtop Bridge Fitting Jig makes the job easy.

13/16" (20.64mm) minimum height adjustment.

Mandolin Adjustable Bridge

Great looking and designed bridge to start from. I needed to mill down the bottom portion of the top section so that I can have a lower string set-up height to fit my Gibson A1. Easily done and the wood doesn't split apart!!

Excellent Bridge

I fitted this bridge to a low end Rogue mandolin owned by one of my students. It took some effort to sand the feet to the curve, but after that everything fell into place rapidly. The width of the saddle was a little narrower than the rosewood bridge I replaced so I set the string placement to match that on my Northfield F5. What a difference in tone. It still needs a minor tweek in intonation at the 12th fret, but this bridge has kicked it up a couple notches in playability.

Check the thumbwheels

I had a couple of these on hand, identical Stew-Mac stock. For an early Gibson F4, I chose the one with the tighter grained wood. The other was rather porous looking, less desirable. I would have to say therefore, some inconsistency in material qualty to watch out for, but generally well-made and handsome bridges.

The real problem was with the thumbwheels—the threads cut to a sloppy fit on the posts of one bridge, such that they wobble freely, and one would not hold at all. I had to take the wheels from the other bridge, which fit better. I would watch out for this, and maybe buy extra thumbwheel and post sets, as I must now do.

Very nice, elegant bridge

My only complaint is that the bridge (adjusted all the way down) was still a skosh too high for the f-style mando I was installing it on. Even after fitting the bridge to the top, I had to cut some off the outer edges and drill the receiving holes deeper. In my estimation, the overall height could be reduced 1/16" or so to allow for this. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful little bridge.

Excellent fit and finish.

I bought this bridge to replace just the saddle on an 80's Gibson F-5. The entire bridge is very nicely machined and the quality of the ebony is remarkable given its scarcity today. The saddle top fit perfectly on the original Gibson F-5 base. For this particular installation I needed to make two modifications in order to make it sit lower on the Gibson base: 1) I drilled the holes for the mounting studs all the way through (as on the original Gibson saddle) and 2) I filed the landing area where it rests on the adjusting washers a bit deeper. It came out perfect and looks just like the original.

I repair hundreds of mandolins every year, most of them arch-tops. This bridge is my first choice for bridge replacement in most cases. They are beautifully made, reasonably priced, and my customers are always happy.

Mando bridge

Bridge works perfectly. Installed on a Rogue mandolin which had the top repaired.cracked top.
Intones just fine. I tuned the mando down a step to see how the repair holds up. No probems
so far. The price was right along with the build quality. The response was very quick.
I buy exclusively at Stew-Mac.
