Pickguard - Not a Perfect Fit

By

I bought this super-cool looking pickguard to replace the boring white one on my Made-in-Japan Fender Jazz Bass from the 1980s.

I had to file down the edges around the neck and pickup in order for it to lay flat.

Only 2 of the 11 screw holes lined up with the original screw holes. I hear that this is common wtih after-market pickguards. So, I drilled out the holes and filled them with dowel stick and wood glue. Then, I re-drilled the holes in alignment with the new pickguard.

It took a lot more work than I had expected, but it was worth it.

This pickguard has holes for adjustment screws for the neck pickup whereas the New Age pickups I bought, and basically any other replacement pups screw directly to the body with 4 screws. The sticker on the bottom says made in Korea so I guess they are made for some Asian knockoff JB that has two adjustment screws on the ends of the pups. Only available in one color and maybe a little overpriced considering this, so buyer beware on this particular item.

the fit of a much cheaper pickguard.

bought this pickguard for a jazz bass deluxe. the screw holes lined up well but there's about an eight of an inch gap between the pickguard and control plate. the pickguard itself isnt "bad" quality, but if it doesn't match up well it isnt much good. spend the extra money and buy a official part.

I received my pickguard with a protective plastic layer. It was until i wanted to use it that's i discovered how shiny an clean it was. Love the material an how it's made, i used it for a Squier Jazz Fretless Bass, it didn't fit exactly, but needed not much fixing.
