Tortoloid Acoustic Dreadnought Pickguard

About This Item

Beautiful reproduction tortoise for vintage-style acoustic guitars. The look of actual tortoise shell, complete with semi-transparent amber areas that intensify the soundboard color.

Each Tortoloid pickguard is individually made. Just like natural shell, no two have exactly the same pattern.

Durable, self-adhesive, and a mere 0.025" thin! They won't dampen tone, or shrink. The edges can be beveled with fine sandpaper.

Tortoloid is a handsome material which uses poured resins and dyes to reproduce the color and 3-dimensional depth of antique Hawksbill tortoise shell. Luthier Mario Proulx developed this material using antique guitar picks for sampling the colors and refining the patterns.

Laying new guard over original it was identical in size and shape. After removing the original as instructed in video, the new was installed. Now my best sounding Martin looks awesome. Almost looks as good as it sounds.

I use nothing but Tortoloid pickguards on my acoustics. IMO no other pickguards come close in appearance.

Dreadnought tortoloid pickguard

When ordering I asked for a pickguard I asked for one with darker color and not much see through. I was so pleased with your pick. It matches my new homemade guitar perfect. I used black limba from South Africa for sides and back, and sitka spruce for the sound board. The neck I used half inch mahogany and maple and bonded to get a multi layers. I could not have picked a better match if I had the guitar there. Thanks

StewMac was very helpful and sent a pickguard just like I wanted, I ask if they would select one with not to much clear in it, this is a beautiful upgrade over the black one on my old D18. This company is top notch and very accommodating . Thanks, Paul

I bought this pickguard in oversized for a client. It didn't take much work to do the final shaping and installation. He is pleased and I liked the minimal effort to get it installed. It really looks great on his D28.

New pickguard to replace plastic photographed tortise shell

This was a very simple process, but it did require some reshaping of the inside radius near the back of the pickguard and then the edges were beveled and polished to erase the hard edges.
It looks good on the guitar & does not hinder the top vibration!
