My experience dealing with Stew Mac has been great. Ive called back with questions and they were answered. I will use Stew Mac again after i finish this project. Phone staff that i spoke with were very nice and helpful.

Almost OK

Opened the box for initial inspection and noticed the bottom side of the neck pocket is cut too far to the right causing a very, VERY thin body contour piece. This can, of course, be trimmed back, but it is no way a perfect body. All the hardware and tuning machines are Pacific Rim junk. If this is your first build, its a good, and complete kit. If you are more experienced, I suggest purchasing select component parts to fit your specific needs.

Really nice for the price and fast delivery. Fret board had a small blemish but will not affect anything. Components are of the quality expected for the price. I'm looking forward to the completion.

Bought it for the sale price, gotta wait til spring!

Well, the sale price for this was basically irresistible, so I ordered it. I’ll need to wait for a while to start assembly, as the finishing of the body is needed right off, and the highly volatile finishing materials cannot be used in my home basement shop, or in my pellet stove heated garage, as I’ve convinced myself that spraying nitrocellulose lacquer in the garage with the pellet stove running for heat will result in an explosion, so when it’s warm enough to open the doors, then I’ll start on this kit. I can at least get away with the grain filler and leveling, that stuff is water based.

My initial impression is favorable, the neck and body supplied are reasonably good, the hardware and electrical parts are good. I was a little surprised at the basic bridge set up, maybe I’ll spring for a better “strings thru the body with separate intonation” setup, but for the sale price, what with most of the heavy work already done, I’m not disappointed, either. I have yet to examine the neck to body transition for some of the issues noted by others, as in pre drilled holes alignment. I guess I’ve got plenty of time to relocate some holes if need be!

All told, I didn’t really want to spend a ton of money for yet another electric guitar, and kinda bought this to accompany the Princeton Amp kit I got on sale as well, I thought they deserved each other!

Well, when spring in New England comes around, I’ll start on this, and post another review once this Tele look-a-like is playable.

Not cut like a Tele

By

I use Strats for the most part and told a buddy I always wanted a Tele, so I received one of these as a holiday gift. I intend on upgrading the electronics and pups (twisted), the switch area is about a 1/4" to narrow and the bridge pickup needs to be widened to fit a standard tele bridge pickup. I am glad I discovered this ahead of time. I also wish it was drilled out for string through ferrules, These are things I will move forward with now before staining. Neck has a nice beefy shape and seems comfortable to my larger than average hands (much larger than my strat and I think I will like it).

Fret board I received had a nasty gouge in one of the frets that I was able to take a damp cloth to and steam/flat iron out.

Tuning keys seem cheap and plastic feeling... Already ordered some Hipshot replacements as well as a Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles.

I actually had a higher expectation from this kit with the Stew Mac name on it, but I am looking forward to seeing it through to the end. After all, it was a gift.

Very nicely made. The neck and body fit together perfectly. All parts are made well. I would buy it again and recommend this kit to others.

If you want a project to have fun with this is it !! Putting this guitar together will teach you a lot, things you won't learn by buying a guitar already put together.

Nice kit. Needs love though

Not a bad kit for someone to learn how to build a guitar. I modified mine with a better bridge/saddles, installed a Humbucker at neck, locking tuners and covered with cloth because the wood was rough looking. The neck fit good and tight. Frets needed some leveling. This is a great value and an easy build.
