Great resource for ANY guitarist

By

I’ve had it with whatever the latest YouTube guru has to suggest about setting up and caring for my instruments. Every one of them has a different take on string height, neck relief, etc. This has it all, and from StewMac, a source you can trust. Well laid out and super informative. I don’t think there’s any subject left out. A must have for any guitarist that doesn’t want to break the bank on semi-annual pro setups.

Great to have around the shop

This book is a great addition to my shop reference books. If you’re new to guitar repair, then it’s a must. There is a lot of good info in here. There is a little fluff, but not too bad. I also have How To Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great, which is just as good. There are many ways to skin this cat, but this book points out some solid ways towards guitar repair.

Indispensable

When I was first collecting a few tools and doing my first fret mill on a coffee table, I bought the second edition, signed by Dan Erlewine, from Mark Erlewine's shop in Austin Tx around 1993. It's the guitar repair bible as far as I'm concerned. As soon as the third edition showed up I bought that too. I sometimes teach a guitar maintenance and basic repair class at my local community college and this is the text book. One of my students showed up with the first edition and I traded him my revised third edition and I am replacing it so I can have all three displayed in my shop. Right next to Don Teeter's The Acoustic Guitar Volumes I and II. I have at least 10 books and a fair few instructional videos from Stew Mac and maybe another 15 from other sources and they are all valuable. But if I could only have one to get started, it's a no brainer. This is the best one book resource for guitar repair I know of. And I would be very surprised if there is a better one out there.

Nice books with useful information. I wish they would have it available in pdf format as nowadays none is using DVDs. The multimedia part could be available online by login with the user profile.

I'm just digging into this reference resource.
Every guitar enthusiast should have one.
I have already used it for doing some setups on my guitars and it has given me direction on getting the performance I'm looking for on the others.

Although I already have a few various repair and upgrade books, this one not only explains how to, but more importantly why these upgrades work. The included DVD also had great content and extras!

Been playing for over 50 years. Have learned by osmosis along the way but it's nice to have a book for reference.

What a great collection of skills, directional illustrations, and guidance in one book. Very easy to follow at any level of expertise and suggested in that order of operation. Chapter to chapter this book is well thought out.
