Golden Age Humbuckers

About This Item

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! For authentic classic tone, Golden Age humbuckers feature Alnico 5 magnets and AWG42 coil wire just like the originals.

Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s.
Alnico 5 magnets give that warm classic tone. AWG42 coils are wound on black or zebra bobbins, fabric-taped, mounted on a brass baseplate, and wax-potted for microphonic suppression. The output wire is 4-conductor plus ground, allowing versatile custom coil-tapping, series/parallel, and phase switching options to expand your sound.

Wiring diagrams and vintage dimensions make installation in most humbucker-equipped guitars easy.

Bridge models:9.0K ohms, 2.015" polepiece spread
Neck models:8.0K ohms, 1.97" polepiece spread

Mounting screws, springs and wiring diagrams are included.

Dimensions
Length2.75"(69.85mm)
Width1.5"(38.10mm)
Height.840"(21.34mm)including mounting tabs

Looking for hotter output with more powerful midrange? Check out Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers.

TIP: Handy Humbucker Helpers make installation a whole lot easier.

Color-matching Cream Parts and Bindings
There have always been slight variations in the color of the cream plastic parts used on Gibson and other guitars. It's not uncommon to see brand new and vintage guitars with bindings, pickup rings, toggle switch rings and pickguards that don't perfectly match in color. We do our best to match all our cream products, but there's no absolute control from batch to batch, or from supplier to supplier.

Why pay a small fortune trying to achieve classic tone when these do that job so well?

I have been a fan of Golden Age humbuckers for quite some time now. When I had an opportunity to do this trash-to-treasure SG project, I knew Golden Age humbuckers would fit the bill perfectly. This guitar carcass had an extra cavity for a 9-volt battery. I used that to add a couple mini-toggle switches to control how the middle humbucker joins into the circuit. I can have it off, paired with the bridge pickup (both in and out of phase) or paired with the neck pickup (again both in and out of phase). I have quite a tonal pallet with this guitar - and they all sound great. I just can't say enough good things about these humbuckers.

Happy Humbuckers

Bought these Golden Age Humbuckers to mellow out the sound of my Jackson Dinky 22 that had really high output pickups that were just a little to harsh for my style of playing. Good sustain, output is great without the harsh tones and a great price for quality pickups. Thanks StewMac.

Double Wound

By

The Golden Age Double Wound Humbuckers are perfect for my homemade lap steels. I don't know much about the electronics in guitar building, but this is my second use of this pickup, and I'll be getting more. Both builds are with the 'neck' pickup, but I'm looking forward to doing a 'bridge' pickup, and something with both eventually. "Found Objects" are my thing.

Great pickup for the price but...

Ordered a set of these, the bridge worked but the neck had no sound. Checked my wiring and everything else but it turns out the pickup was faulty. Wired the pickup to an output jack and tapped it but there was no sound. Wrote to stewmac and they have fantastic customer service and my replacement pickup is on the way. Kudos to great customer service. Other than that 5 stars!

Don't worry, they're legit

I'm a tinkerer -- always buying "cheap" Epiphones and the sort, then replacing all the innards with CTS pots, switchcraft, better pups, etc.

I've always been loyal to the majors like Lindy, Seymour, and DiMarzio with great success but a huge hit to my wallet. I also got burned when it came time for resale because no one pays for mods in the second hand market.

Anyhow, I love my new Epiphone Les Paul, plays and sounds great but the pickups were a little flat. I saw all the reviews for these Golden Age "PAF Clones" and decided to give them a try. A full set was less than a single pickup from a major.

I am not disappointed in the slightest. These things are crisp and clear, they sound absolutely fantastic through my Princeton.

Gteat vintage tone

Bought a set to replace the stock pickups in my 2009 Washburn Idol. Really brought the guitar to life, best tone I ever had. Saved at least $50 instead of buying "well known names". Highest quality.

unexpected surprise

bought these for my LP project because I could coil tap them. Very disappointed to see the bobbins were textured on top. Why? For what purpose. Looks odd up close. Ill just say they're "custom"?

Good pickups at a ultra affordable price!

These sound great but I perfer the tone of the overwound pickups. Just my preference. Great pickups with good tone. Clean up well and can push that amp into overdrive.

Great bang for the buck

I put a pair of these in an 2004 epiphone sg and they sound amazing! Great tone, clarity and very responsive. They transformed a good piece of wood in a fantastic guitar. I have dimarizo, Duncan’s and tv Jones, the golden age are easily on par with the big names. A good choice if you are looking for a new sound.
