Bridge/Fingerboard Removal Knife

This is not a "heavy duty" tool and should only be used for gentle work. Use the seam separator or other knife for tougher joints. The first one I got, I used a bit aggressively and kinked the end. I was able to hammer it mostly flat again so it still works. Its nice to use once you get a fingerboard free at one end and start working it off. Less likely to cut into the wood than an actual sharpened knife.

Not the best tool for this. The spatula is a better choice.

I have loved these knives for years, but this one is too flimsy for the task. The metal collapsed like an accordion with light pressure. It can be used for a nice flexible putty knife though.

Good knife for acoustic guitar (and ukulele!) bridge removal. Yes, it's thin - that's the idea. You can slip it into tight joints easily. I don't think I'd use it for fingerboard removal - it's a bit too fragile for that. (See the Stew Mac razor knife for that).

A very useful tool.

This is a very useable bridge knife, but it is very thin; which is why it works so well! If you try to push it through too fast you'll bend it up and possibly damage the top.

Not being a luthier, but being around acoustic instruments all my life, I find the "Bridge / Fingerboard Removal Knife" a VERY handy tool to have in your kit. I have a Martin D-28-12 from the late 60's that needs a new pickguard. This tool is perfect for gently lifting off the old pickguard after carefully heating the area with an 80w bulb for about 20 minutes or so. Removing a fingerboard? That's for the big dogs to attempt.

In reading the other review I never thought of sharpening and or heating it. That may have helped. I do quite a bit of fingerboard replacements and my first choice is actually a Behr Spatula. It is thick enough so you can provide some power behind it. This one seems a little thin for that but is good for getting the separation started and edges. Have not had an opportunity to try it on an acoustic bridge.

Worked very well after sharpening it on a whetstone. Prior to sharpening, it was like using a putty knife. Great flexibility. Sharpen and heat with a hairdryer and your bridge will be on your workbench in short order.
